This trade idea needs some tinkering, so all constructive criticism is appreciated. It's a doozy.

NY OUT: Lee, Rose, Jeffries, Gallinari, Duhon
NY IN: Barbosa, Stoudemire

PHX OUT: Stoudemire, Barbosa
PHX IN: Miller, Rose, Booth, Lee, Duhon

MN OUT: Miller, Booth
MN IN: Gallinari, Jeffries

For MN: I'm a little on the fence on this one. Gallinari could be a great long term fit next to Al and Love, but taking on Jeffries extra 2 years dents are cap aspirations. Does Gallinari become better than Marvin Williams? If you think so, then you may do this trade. For me, it's a little too early to tell, but I say why not, there's no guarantee we van get a FA anyway. Further, a move like this would probably require that Brewer becomes a full time shooting guard, something some people are for, and some are against.

It also might come down to just how bad Jeffries is, which I just don't know. Could he at least make the rotation or would he never get off the bench?

NY: By moving Gallinari and Jeffries, the Suns can add Barbosa and Amare, and if my math is right, still have enough money to sign Lebron in '10. They would just have Amare, Curry and Barbosa on the books for about $30 million.

PHX: Here, they move Amare, add significant pieces to still be a contender and get significant salary relief. This move makes sens for PHX b/c it surrounds Shaq with shooters and adds a scrappy PF to do Shaq's dirty work for him.

I would love to get Gallinari on the Wolves. Wouldn't it be easier to just offer Miller/Miami 1st for Gallinari/James(or Jefferies if they insisted)?

Would you do Cardinal, Boston #1 and Utah #1 for NYK's pick and Jefferies?

My stock in Gallinari has dropped. His back problems and sporadic play time makes it hard for me to judge his value.

I think Amare should net a package based around expiring + Lee + 1-2 picks 10+. The problem is NYC doesn't have enough expirings to get a full expiring deal. I'd involve mn as a chop shop.

I've thought about this and The only deal I would consider is the following.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Incoming Players: Stephon Marbury, Danilo Gallinari
Outgoing Players: Jason Collins, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Mia 1st, Bos 1st, Utah 1st

New York Knicks
Incoming Players: Mike Miller, Amare Stoudemire, Brian Cardinal
Outgoing Players: Stephon Marbury, Danilo Gallinari, David Lee

Phoenix Suns
Incoming Players: Jason Collins, David Lee, Mia 1st, Bos 1st, Utah 1st
Outgoing Players: Amare Stoudemire


MN side:
This ends up being Miller + 3 1sts in the range of 10+ for Gallinari. Collins, Cards, and Miller all need to be included to get the numbers to match Stephs salary. We dump salary too. I don't really care either way on our end here to be honest. I think I'd prefer taking multiple shots at young players in the draft.

NYC side:
NYC fans scoff at this but I think it's a hell of a lineup, and doesn't hurt 2010 cap numbers. While still making the team competitive for the next 2 years.

PHX Side:
Good young big, who they have matching rights too. Not many teams have cap space next year to make a great offer on him so he will be easy to retain. 3 picks. They also get under the cap and lux, so this saves them 10-13m?

I'd do something without Gallinari & Miller involved for pure cap space, but to do so Steph needs to be involved and it gets a bit difficult.

he was a great prospect. why did ny wreck him.

I think the Suns would be asking for a better package for Amare, so not sure I see this as viable. To me, it just doesn't seem like enough value going to the Suns.

On the question at hand, for MN I would jump on this in a heartbeat. Now granted, I am/was bigger on Gallinari's potential and abilities than most; but I still think he has a very good chance to be a pretty special player in the NBA. I realize he has been slowed due to injuries this year, but for that price (and probably more) I would be more than willing to roll the dice on him. I think he will be a point forward type (matched with Foye and/or Brewer that would be a great fit) and I do not see the pressure of being in the NBA getting to him.

I'd actually want Wilson Chandler instead. The kid's a baller. I think he's on par with Brewer and could be better than him when their careers are over.

Do you really think he's wrecked? He was just injured. He's looking good now isn't he? Numbers look good for a very young rookie euro.

I don't think there's a player in the mid first this year worth taking on that much salary. Maybe it was top 10.

Really? You want another Brewer?

Chandler is already better than Brewer. Foye and Chandler starting on the wings with Brewer backing them up would be nice.

It would help out the fanbase, but Gallinari seems to struggle with the physicality of the nba and gets run down. Plus he probably wouldn't like the idea of going to a smaller city, but who knows? Maybe he was a big KG fan.

gallinari is a point fwd I think he would get great with foye. we could let foye start against the one but really be playing his off guard role then brewer could start at the 2 as a defender.

I don't think NY considers trading Gallinari unless they bring back a star, i.e. Bosh or Amare.

You are probably right about that. Do you think they would go for.. Miller/Utah 1st for Chandler/James ?

Possibly. Miller and James each have 1 more year left, so the salaries sort of wash. Problem is NY isn't exactly in win now mode so they sort have have the same incentive as us-- dump salary add young, cheap talent. Thus, I can't see NY wanting Miller unless he was shipped to a third team.
