http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/w ... ml?eref=T1I'm not a fan of "What if?" scenarios in general, but this was probably the biggest move the franchise ever made.
aschburner wrote: Had McHale zigged instead of zagged, had he bit on what many believed to be the Lakers' best offer -- center Andrew Bynum, forward Lamar Odom and a first-round pick -- Garnett would have been playing on Pacific time, Bryant might have been Finals MVP and the Lakers might have been hanging the 15th championship banner in franchise history

or what if la traded kobe to chi for what ended up being a steaming pile. or what if mn drafted mcdyess like it wanted instead of the skinny hs kid. or what if googs and starbury stayed here and kg never became the HoF player we know.
just mocking but I hate what if also.

Not true.
1. McDyess went 2nd, we picked 5th.
2. We never really wanted McDyess, it was a ploy to get teams to pass on KG.
I understand that you're bringing up "what ifs" but the what if you talked about that I'm referring to actually had no possibility of happening. KG to LA was a possibility but I'm sure the same conference thing was a factor which ultimately landed him in Boston.

As far as I know, not true. The only thing I've ever heard about Ebi/LeBron was that Ebi was one of a few who did not back down from the challenge of guarding LeBron. Everyone passed, probably because they didn't want to get embarrassed but Ebi took up the challenge. I've never heard anything about Ebi shutting down LeBron. Has any one person ever shut him down? No. So why would Ebi be the first?

I personally feel vindicated after listening to all those LAL posters come here and say that KG was old, was going to be developing injuries, and had a house in Malibu, so at the most, we should be happy with Odom, Farmar and a 1st .. Bynum was off the table. If KG brought BOS a championship, he surely would have done the same for the Lakers, and I enjoyed the way the Celtics slaughtered them in Game 6.
BTW, does anyone else find this kind of a weird topic for Aschburner to bust out for CNNSI? That guy has to get over the KG trade .. I can't imagine this is an interesting article to most of the NBA.

I like Aschburner... and I think this article, which references a scenario that includes the league's two biggest draws and best teams, as well as the Grizz (for their Pau Gasol trade) and Minnesota has a plenty broad scope.
I also enjoyed the Lakers losing, and not just because of KG. Kobe is unlikeable to me, and although I have a tremendous amount of respect for Phil Jackson, he's not the coach he once was.
Oh, and most Laker posters don't know their head from their behinders. There are some that are good, but too many that will try and convince you that a player like Al Jefferson is only worth expirings.
