Trading Mike Miller?

Bergen Record wrote: Though Thorn won't admit to having an agenda when he leaves for All-Star Weekend Thursday morning, the entire league is convinced that he's going to try to upgrade his small-forward position. Numerous executives, however, claim that the Washington Wizards aren't likely to put Caron Butler on the market. Mike Miller of Minnesota is another matter. "We'll follow up on some conversations that have already transpired; I have a reasonable idea of what people want to do," Thorn said. "Sometimes face-to-face conversations lead to things that don't get done by phone. But I don't have any specific discussions planned." Newark Star-Ledger
The Nets would like to upgrade the small-forward position — Caron Butler and Mike Miller have come up – add more young, athletic players and get another point/combo guard. They probably can’t do it all by a week from today, but with an abundance of big men, three first-round picks the next two years and expiring contracts, the Nets will be in many conversations. The Bulls and Blazers are talking to everyone, so don’t discount a move with them.
The Nets are deep at center, (though we'd never get Brook Lopez), have Yi, CDR, a pick, and we could even get some use out of an expiring Stromile Swift. I like Josh Boone over Sean Williams myself. Thoughts?

eh...I'm awfully lukewarm on most of their bigs outside of Lopez...I suppose I might still pull the trigger since we could probably clear more cap space this summer with Stromile Swift and since this season is down the toilet anyway, no reason to keep Miller...no Boone for me, but maybe Sean Williams because of his shot blocking or Yi because...just because he's probably the best prospect we'll net from them. I'd like a pick as well if there's one to be had. Also picking up CDR would be nice...we would have to waive Ollie and Booth most likely, though.

I much prefer Boone to Williams, too.

Does Miller like it here? If he want to be here and he would resign we should keep him. As long as he isn't too expensive.

As far as i have heard, they love CDR and wont give up that Dallas pick for any reason because of the major possibility it becomes a high lotto pick.
Id have to consider it if we could get any sort of combination of Swift/Boone/CDR/Pick i would have to consider it.

I think Boone + Net's lotto protected first + Swift is enough for me to part with Miller.

I like either Shrinks or Deeney0s' deals.
I like Boone over Williams. Swift's expiring in 2009 vs. Miller's in 2010 puts us monetarily in the thick of things this summer. With immediate playing time waved in their faces - some of the free agents will take the money and come here, others won't even give us a thought.
I was hopeful of what Mike could do for us this season from 3 pt land and his veteran leadership.
He's been kind of a pussy - when taking it to the hoop 75% of the time he stops short and passes it back out - many of the passes are pretty wild. As far as leadership he whines about most calls against him. I don't see him turning it around either. Very disappointed!

Doesn't anyone think that we could get Lopez for the right price? What if we threw this at them:
Miller
Pekovic
1st
for
Lopez
Hassell
Ager
I realize that we don't have the roster spots but if we dropped Booth and possibly Collins, we would have enough room.

I actually like Cardinal on this team. He is kind of like a Mark Madsen only he can shoot.

That's fine. We should still move his salary so we can sign a decent free agent though.

Good idea, and that's where I went first, but you can't really get there without taking back Hassell's two year deal. Its kind of a shame, because we'd have more use for Stromile Swift than someone like Wally, even though Wally is the better player.
Incidentally, I should probably mention that Stromile Swift may be bought out by the Nets. His mom died, and he went home to grieve, but refused to come back to the team. They threatened to fine him, and he said, "I don't care." Maybe a change of scenery here would help, but he's certainly someone the Nets would be motivated to get rid of.

I don't think we'll find a taker for Miller + Cardinal AND get a prospect/pick. I'd rather have Boone+Pick than the extra cap space. We should still be able to make a run at Marvin Williams with Miller's contract off the books.

I am all about quantity for quality. If we could make a move for Lopez I would love it. I tend to believe that with the physical nature of the big man game every team needs 3 starting quality bigs. Spread the minutes 3 ways and chances are neither play 82 games. So I want to make a move to bring that guy in. I think Pekovic has a chance to be that guy, but if we can use his talent as a tool to bring in someone like Lopez I would do it.

Just thinking a little bit. I think Yi would be amazing on the Wolves. This is the first time it has crossed my mind. We could try and develop him into a 3.
Foye/Telfair
Draft Pick(Hardin?)/Draft Pick (T-Williams/Sam Young)
Yi/Gomes
Love/Craig
Al hopefully he's back

Yi would have a lot to learn to become a 3, but I'm pretty sure he has the athleticism to get is done.
I'd give Miller/McCants and maybe a bad draft pick.

If Yi wasn't happy in Milwaukee, he won't be happy in Minnesota. He'll pout till he gets himself somewhere with exposure, and not the Northern kind.
Miller won't get us Lopez. Nothing will get us Lopez - why would the nets move him? Would you move Love for anything on the Wolves other than Jefferson? Love and Lopez have pretty much the same value right now, except Lopez is paid a good chunk less.

Yi thought he was a lot better than he was, so he thought he could whine. He doesn't have that control anymore. Yi wasn't whining in Millwaukee, he just wasn't performing. He lost all his power when he didn't become Dirk II

Yi doesn't think. The Chinese government have a subdepartment that does that for him.
