Heat-Raps deal done. Jermaine on Heat

I bet they lock up the 4 spot and we get a high teens pick, early twenties.
I think this is a good deal for the Heat, but I was hoping we would get the 15th-16th pick, but that's very unlikely now, especially if JON is healthy.

I say he misses atleast ten more games but yeah, I was hoping it ended up closer to the mid teens. Thing is I think the spots we drop with our pick makes it alittle easier to take.

If you're looking for a bright side, this goes to demonstrate what everyone is saying .. cap space is going to be ultra-valuable. Yeah Jermaine's good, but he's expensive. MIA got to unload Marcus Banks three years deal, and also took back a decent Jamario Moon before MIA would provide an expiring for even a TWO-year JO deal. These three year guys are going to be cheap cheap cheap, and we have cap space and one of the richest owners in the NBA.

^They also got a pick. Haven't seen if it's a 2nd or protected 1st. Moon isn't a big deal at all.

It's a lottery-protected 1st (from the raps board).
I'm not convinced this trade makes miami much better, even IF O'neal stays healthy. O'neal is a shell of his former self, his knees are clearly just not right any more. Also he is a selfish player who clogs the paint on offense. He blocks shots, but isn't a good defender anymore. The upside to this for Miami is knocking banks's deal off the '10 cap and the pick (and moon's RFA rights).
Toronto will only have about 46 million in guaranteed salary next summer (before their draft pick), in a buyer's market they will be able to get 2 good players with that cap room. In that regard they won big time with this trade. Any trade that knocks over 17 million off your next year's cap has to have SOME upside. It was smart for them because they will be able to add a player or 2 (Or re-sign marion at a substantial discount) the summer before Bosh's opt-out.

Risky move by the Heat, teams are becoming obsessed with getting ready for the summer of 2010.

I don't see why it's so risky.

It could be considered a risky move by the Raptors. Marion could leave this summer and they will still be stuck with Banks's contract. On top of that they traded a 1st round pick too.

The only team that O'Neil has played well against is us (hint hint). Hes a has been who will not improve the heat

I just saw the news and Riles was very excited, JO is Riles says going to be doing rehab right away Riles expects these players to be in top shape, He is very excited about 2010 as well with this deal. I like it for Miami and is a whole different system then JO has been in, On another note this will be a good move for Haslum,,,Beasley went off in the All-Star Rookie Game. I dont see Timberwolves pick from the Heat getting better the rest of the season. Miami has really turned it's club around quickly from last years, But in the interview Riley said it's about taking educated moves. I know McHale is just as crafty and am just waiting to see what he will do.

Trading for a 30 year old who's had major knee troubles is pretty risky. I know the future caproom is a big bonus, but if another injury flares up and JO misses the end of the season, d-wade and beasley are going to be relied upon to carry the team when they'll probably be fighting for position in the play-offs.

I bet he looks a lot better on the Heat. Riley (and I'm assuming Spolestra) loves traditional big guys. Toronto was playing O'Neal with an uptempo point (Calderon) and a face-up 4 (Bosh)... those pieces fit better on paper than they did on the court, causing a coaching change.
Riles knows exactly what he wants out of the center position, and I bet Jermaine will do what's asked and defer to Wade (who is a top-3 MVP candidate this year, after all.) I say a 4 seed for the Heat. They aren't better than Boston, Cleveland or Orlando, but with Wade, O'Neal and their rookies I think they're a lot better than the rest in the East.

I agree with younggunsmn, I don't see this making Miami significantly better on the court. Their pick might drop one, maybe two, spots but I don't think any more than that.
