BOS - MIN

Tony Allen is lost for the season in BOS. Want to try to trade some win-now, for some win-later, or are we bored with BOS now?

MIN GETS: Tony Allen (2 yr byc) + Giddens + Bill Walker + POB (expiring)

BOS GETS: Craig Smith (2 yr byc) + McCants (exp) + Ollie (vet min)

This clearly upgrades BOS' chances of winning the play-offs. I like Smith > Allen, but their contracts are the same, and BOS could use big man production right now more than we could. We could replace someone on BOS with Pruitt's two year deal if they wanted to swap the BOS 2009 for the BOS 2010.

I really do not see how this helps MN other than maybe a look at POB/Giddens/Walker.

Can we afford a mediocre 4-for-3 type deal? We have 15 on the roster as is.

I though Bill Walker was some kind of prize?

If not, toss in the BOS 2009 for 2010 pick swap.

Bill Walker was pretty high on my, and several other posters list during the draft, and i would still like to see if he has potential, but thats basically the only reason for doing this trade. Im not against it, just not really excited.

I would do it. I caught a glimpse of POB playing in scrub time a few weeks back and was very impressed with his agility, athleticism, and overall skills as a 7 footer. Unsure why he hasn't clicked anywhere yet. Allen has looked fairly talented when I've seen him play. Don't know much about Giddens except that he had some problems in college and Boston is fairly high on him. Walker has quite a bit of talent as well. Probably finally need to buyout Booth to make it happen. It's probably not going to happen due to FO thinking we already are very young - and with the upcoming draft are going to get younger. i.e. - having to give too much playing time to young players who don't appreciate their bicycles. I'd still do it even though I like Smith.

Would Smith get many minutes on the Celts with Davis and Powe also coming off the bench?

I don't really understand this trade...

Exchange players who get DNPs on both teams except for Allen and Smith? And Ollie is out...

This trade seems to be useless...since probably none of this players has the potential to be a starter on a playoff nba team and we have already enough role players.

The way I see it Craig Smith is the most talented player in the deal, and Bill Walker may be the most valuable. McCants only value to us is as an expiring, but under KG's wing, he might return to his bench scorer role .. something BOS might have use for in the playoffs with Tony Allen out. BOS is a pretty thin team, so injuries are a major concern. They need a bench because they can't just throw the Big Three out there for 40 minutes every game. Ollie only needs to be adding play-off experience by the time of the play-offs, but coming back earlier can only help. With Cassell traded, he's a new mentor for Rondo, and give him a slightly different perspective. At the very least, adding McCants and Smith probably makes KG happy and rejuvenated for the rest of the season.

For us, we do a deal that's salary neutral, but gain some prospects. I don't think POB will be great, but just having him as a center option would be useful this season, even if it only puts Love playing more PF. Giddens? I don't know .. first rounder in a deep draft, so I guess he's worth a look. Walker was ranked even higher by some prior to the draft, but fell to the second round. I don't think Craig Smith is a longterm solution here, so I don't mind swapping his contract with Tony Allen.
