Gomes is sort of starting to remind me 'Toine a little bit, only a little more composed, and little less aggressive offensively.

His perimeter defense seems decent, it's not really good, but it seems acceptable and potentially good if he was a little quicker.

Well, there is our answer. He is growing as an offensive player.

I completely disagree with you. He has always been considered a solid defender, sometimes a very good defender. This is not just on this board, but rather a pretty standard opinion.

I agree with devil that if he is a long-term SF (I think he is) then he does need to trim his body down. This will help his defense as well as his endurance. The knock on Gomes is consistency in his intensity.

I can only attest to what I have seen, and he gets beat off the dribble a lot.

I would not call Gomes a very good defender. He is Average, maybe slightly above average, but very good is what Brewer is.

Defensively I considerl Gomes fundamentally sound, but athletically limited. He'll have some bright moments, but on a night to night basis, I just don't think it's realistic to expect a 240+ lb guy (I'm guessing thats his weight) not named Ron Artest to be shutting down the other team's best swingman.

I miss Corey....btw, I said Average and sometimes above average. Good 6th/7th man. Hopefully Brewer earns the starting nod.

I like Gomes as a rotation piece. Whether or not that means a starting position is dependent on what improvements he makes and what the front office adds coming up. He's not so bad that he needs to be shuttled out of town, but he's not so good that he can't be improved upon.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

Exactly. "Solid" is the definition of who Ryan Gomes is as a basketball player.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.
