It's a shame they weren't together for longer, they worked so well with each other at such a young age. If steph was thinking straight and stuck around, and they were together in their prime, that combo would of been scary to watch.

Just left him hanging indeed. Just think, we almost made it to the 2nd round in Steph's 2nd season. We would have undoubtedly done it the next year, as we were pretty good early in the year before he totally trashed us. It took another six seasons before we'd even get to that level. I know it's only one player and one event, but when he left it changed EVERYTHING. We went from up and coming, to just trying to stay afloat.

Bigger defection? Marbury or Cassell?

Marbury --
Pro's: He and Kg both young, almost made 2nd round anyway. Great future
Con's: Marbury never a winner. Good save/trade for Brandon + lottery pick.

Cassell --
Pro's: Many picked Wolves for championship. Investment led to risky moves afterwards.
Con's: It would have been a brief because of Cassell's age.

Plus we got screwed in the trade.

Had Marbury never pulled his "I deserve more than KG" act and been content with the millions he would have made and possible run at championships, I think many people would see him in a different light. Yeah he's got a terrible basketball reputation, but as far as a human being, he's done a lot of good things off the court. The charity's he's donated to, the Starbury brand, etc...

But if he stays here and the Wolves can surround him and KG with good role players, people would see Marbury's contributions a lot more, and they'd have gone down as Stockton/Malone version 2.0.

That's part of what makes him so interesting - he has done some good things off the court, and when interviewed he doesn't come off as particularly stupid. Yet he has made every team he has played on worse with his arrival, and in a way that seems to have more to do with his personality than his relatively selfish style of play. Very strange. I tend to think of him as an eternal toddler - self-centered, emotional & ignorant, but not inherently evil. These are all personality flaws that a good pre-draft screening should have picked up, so either they did not do this, or chose to ignore it.

I went to a lot of games when he & KG were here, and they were so fun to watch. It was of course our bad timing to be the ones that (along with the absolutely ridiculuous contract the Bucks gave the Big Dog) forced a change in the CBA with KG's monster contract. It made Lil' Steph angry and gave us one of the few real albatross contracts in the league.
