Big Al: "I will be playing at the beginning of next season"

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/57845/20090311/al_jefferson_ill_be_back_better_than_ever/

"I will be playing at the beginning of next season," Jefferson said. "I'm just going to take my time with training camp and preseason, but there's no doubt in my mind I'll be ready to go next season."

"That's why I'm out here busting my tail now," Jefferson said. "I'm not going to even think like that. It's not going to limit me. I've seen guys have way worse knee surgery than I had and come back better than ever. I'm going to be one of those guys."

Video games count as "playing"? Hopeful, but I doubt it. It's quite common for athletes his age to come back stronger after an ACL injury. Their confidence and trusting the knee is typically the issue, but after they get passed that, they're typically better off because of it.

Big Al will be drop step dunkin on fools next year.

Lakers fan here, just wanted to say I hope this is true and he's back at the start of next year. He's one of my favorite players in the league.

Wow. It's hard not to get excited for next season. Al was completely dominating this year, and I'm assuming next year he'll be doing the same once he gets into a groove. Add this to the fact we're going to have a most likely amazing draft and possibly be able to sign a good player in the offseason, and there's plenty to be excited about for us wolves fans.

Does anyone else spend all summer researching guys you want the wolves to draft and counting down for the draft? I swear it's like the funnest day of the year

Imagine if he does lose some of the baby fat. Him and Brewer build some strength. wow..that would help.

I like his optimism, but where the hell are the Corey Brewer quotes? "I'm gonna be back next season looking sculpted and ready to prove all the keyboard warriors wrong!"

somethin like dat

I hope Al Jefferson loses that baby fat Rev was referring to and Corey Brewer happens to find it.

That being said I am guardedly optimistic that both jefferson and brewer will have improved skills when they get back especially in their shooting form and freethrows. Anyone who has had this kind of injury before will know that there isnt much you can do on the basketball court during this rehab except stand and shoot. And brewer has already stated that he has been practicing his form shooting.

Maybe Al Jeff can develop the flat footed Sam Perkins three-point shot while he is rehabbing.

I'll be shocked if he's back before the New Year. I said that at the time of the injury, and I stand by that.

Sounds like Brewer would be ready to go, though, if the season started up in August. Now he's going into his 3rd year, so he's not eligible for the summer league, is he? Isn't it just players in their first two years or unsigned guys? Or is that rule only for assigning guys to the D-League?

Brewer would be to place in the summer league to get his timing back, or maybe find completely new timing?

Oh, I have faith in the Brew-meister, Discount Shoe Warehouse, but the all-star game is February, and I want him beasting in November. It basically comes down to a calendar issue that I completely blame on David Stern and Julius Caesar. Mostly Julius Caesar, though.

Speaking of the all-star game, though. I can see Brewer competing in the dunk contest, the three point contest, skills challenge, Horse, and the actual game. He'll win all of them, and take home the MVP. Foye can carry his trophies for him. I wish I could predict a steal from LBJ leading to a fast break dunk right before the buzzer to give the West a win, but I think the game would be so out of reach by then from Brewer lighting up the joint from behind the arc. BREWER, FOR THREE! YES!

Actually, he'd probably eat his lunch anytime.

Brewer could also play the Rookie vs Sophs game because he's THAT good
