This is meant to be a follow up to Shox214's post that the wolves will hire a GM at the end of the season. I don't want to take away from Shox's thread and discussion about who the wolves should pick so I'll make it simple. List who you think the Wolves will pick.

I'll go from left field as I often do and say that Taylor uses his connections in the league and lands a shocking chandidate.

I want, but will never get, Pritchard from Portland.

It seems like Taylor is really trying to get away from how they have done things in the past, so I predict it will be someone completely out of our normal circles. It will probably be an assistant GM from a successful team like OKC hiring Presti from San Antonio.

If they like someone who is apart of a current playoff team's organization, do they have to wait until the end of the post season? I know that is true for coaches....but what about GMs? I hope that isn't the case because we need some action right away to finalize our direction and go forward.

As the Timberwolves' season draws to a close, the team still has some work to do on and off the court.

Owner Glen Taylor, interviewed at halftime of Minnesota's 110-87 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night at Target Center, said he still expects Kevin McHale to return as coach next season but that McHale hasn't told him he would.

Taylor also said the team will have a general manager-type to head up basketball operations, ending the committee-style approach it has used in recent seasons.

"We're going to have one person that will be at the top," Taylor said. "We've interviewed quite a few people."

Asked if that person will come from inside or outside the organization, Taylor said: "We're interviewing inside and outside. I'd say we're pretty much done with it."

Since McHale gave up his position as vice president of basketball operations to become coach on Dec. 8, his front-office duties have been divided among general manager Jim Stack, assistant GM Fred Hoiberg and others.

Taylor said he expects to fill the front-office position within a couple of weeks after the end of the season and reiterated that McHale returning to his former job is not an option.

"He's not one of the candidates," Taylor said.

If I'm reading that right, they're already done with interviews. Which basically tells me it's someone without a job right now, or an internal candidate.

So what happens to Stack? Isnt his job title GM right now? If he isnt the person that will be hired anyway.

You can interview someone that is part of another staff....I think.

But john, you are likely right. It is someone who does not have a job right now.

Jeff van Gundy? Czar Mike?

I hope that we at least interviewed # David Morway, Dennis Lindsey and Chris Grant. If we did not I would be pissed. Taylor has enough connections around the league that if he wanted to avoid the country club and hire a pro he could.

I vote Dennis Lindsey (Spurs) or John Gabriel (Blazers).

Freddy and I see things about the same way. He's also a few years removed from playing, and very locked in with what it takes for teams to win today.

For those who don't know about Tommy Sheppard, check out this article from 2007. He almost beat out Sam Presti for the OKC (then Sonics) job.

I like tommy. I guess I just do not have a good feel for freddy and the countryclub influence worries me. lindsay is my first choice but u are plugged in more than I am.

Notorious JVG is my favorite person associated with the NBA at any level. Unfortunately I doubt he'd want to come here.

I dont know what the big deal is with this supposed "bad influence". Its not like Hoiberg was in the FO during the Joe Smith saga or dealing Cassel for Jaric. The last 2 seasons this current FO has done a good job of clearing out the crap and setting itself up to let someone take over and really try and build a team without having to get the approval of 4 other guys. Now its just whoever the GM is and Glen. Hopefully Glen gives whomever it is a bit of freedom.

I say if Freddy is the most qualified, i dont see why you dont give him the job
