So, with the trading season open, I thought I'd do something spectacular:

MIN GETS: Redd
MIL GETS: Sprewell

MIN GETS: Bogut + #10-11 pick
MIL GETS: Cardinal + Madsen + UTA pick + $5.958 mil TPE


MIN retains the rights to Sprewell, and resigns him to a 3-year deal, $13.552 mil in 2009-10, and team options for the final two years, creating a giant expiring. Cardinal and Madsen provide expirings as well. MIN can add this money without going over the lux to contend right now. Use the picks to get Rubio/Wall.

MIL dumps two big contracts for a massive rebuild, starting next summer. The TPE gives them $6 mil, +$2 mil for the pick swap, and they probably get more when they buy-out these three. In any event, it allows them to retain both the young Sessions and Villanueva, and meet MIL's constraint to stay under the lux. They stink in 2009, and get a high lottery pick plus the UTA pick in 2010. Bogut costs $12 mil/year through 2014 (perhaps overpriced with back issues) and Redd costs $18.3 mil in 2010 .. and he's definitely overpriced.


By the way .. while its fun to dream about that starting line-up, I would not do this deal. Too expensive and too much risk.

When i 1st read Spreewell i was like WTF? I had no idea we retained his rights.

MIN has financial strength, and if we want to flex it, we can bring in some pretty major talent. There's a thread on the Trade Board about players who's contracts may have been OK until the NBA economy started shrinking, which names a lot of decent players a team with expirings, like ourselves, could get. Among the names people have suggested are:

Corey Maggette
Luol Deng
Vince Carter
Antawn Jamison
Samuel Dalembert
Micheal Redd
Richard Jefferson
Tyson Chandler
Chris Kaman
Andrew Bogut
Rip Hamilton

And these are only the contracts for guys who's contracts may have just gone bad .. the Rashard Lewis's of the world are also available for expirings as well.

The Wolves have expirings, and the space under the lux to use them. If they want to pay full price to acquire talent, there are certainly talented players that can be acquired.

If you posted this on the Milwaukee board, they would string you up. It's one thing to give Redd up for expirings, maybe even with a little sweetener, but Bogut and a lottery pick for expirings is crazy talk.

I believe you're wrong. I've spent a lot of time on the MIL board, and they are very realistic about money issues. I think I may even have posted something like this (sans Sprewell) last month.

In the time I've spent over there, they seem to really like Bogut. I think the majority have said they wouldn't trade him for Love.

Yeah, they all seem to think Bogut has a chance of being good. Now that's crazy talk.

The worry of a long expensive contract on a guy with back problems has worried some, but I was even treating this as the positive.

Very few there believe that Redd is not a significant negative trade value, with his huge contract. As for the #10-#11 pick, the cash starved Bucks refuse to go over the lux, and it could cost them Sessions and villanueva. They may be willing to trade their 2009 pick and its additional salary for the deferred UTA pick straight up.

You might be on to something there.

I agree that the pick could very much be in play to help them with the luxury tax. I think Redd and/or Bogut would be available in such a deal.

The only issue is our use of Spreewell as a giant expiring. It's possible, but I can't see the Wolves being a team that would actually get that creative.

I still can't believe they mocked me for proposing a Lopez - Bogut trade on their board (but then again this was before everyone realized he was ROY worthy).
