Home Court DIS-advantage

Post#1 » by shrink » Sat Apr 18, 2009 6:06 am

Fred Hoiberg touched on this in his KFAN interview, and it really rang home with me. The wolves season is over, and it split this way:

HOME: 11-30
ROAD: 13-28

As Hoiberg pointed out, the Wolves had some pretty substantial wins, beating DAL there, and ending the Jazz 15-game home winning streak in front of rabid Jazz fans. 13-28 is the same road record as the playoff-bound Bulls.

I checked the last ten years -- only three other teams (of about 300) have had better road records. Its not about being a bad team either, since the last to do it was ORL last year.

Thoughts?

I would have been worried if we had 10 wins more @ road than @ home....but so I don't care about this except for the fact that it is bad for Timberwolves fans @ Target Center that they do not see their team winning more...

Watching all the Wolves games on League Pass; the majority of the visiting announcers all comment on how quiet Target Center is each night. One team pointed out that the Wolves probably play harder on the road than at home because of the atmosphere in the arenas. They seem to play better in front of large noisy crowds which is something they will not experience in Target Center again until they reach the playoffs. Minnesota fans are the quietest fans in nearly every sport with the exception of the Wild. This is not the only reason for their bad home play but it is a significant reason.

In a semi-but not really related note. Can you imagine being a Cavs season ticket holder and having your team go 40-1 at home? ONE FRIGGIN LOSS at home. Imagine also if you went to one Cavs game all year and it happened to be the loss.

Imagine if that loss was at the end of the season, the whole town would have been on suicide watch.

I don't see any alternative - clearly the Target center will have to be torn down and replaced.

Tear it down and put up the "Arrrrrooooo Arena" The entrance should be a giant wolf head and you walk into its mouth.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

Can't we just play all of our games on the road from now on? That would be so much easier than finding reasons for the home fans to actually cheer.
