Dwane Casey

What do people think about the new GM bringing back Dwane Casey as a head coach? This team really needs to focus on defense and he really did a good job at setting in defense schemes and had a rock solid defense in 2005-2006. Now that we don't have players like Ricky Davis and Mark Blount that will undermine him, he might be able to be more effective as a coach.

Weren't Casey's rotations and offensive sets a bit of a mess? Yeah he was a great defensive coach, but he's probably better served as an assistant. I think we need a coach that commands respect from the get go.

Yeah, just not a great fit for our personnel right now. I would love to get Budenholzer and run the Spurs system.

There were. I also didn't like how he threw Rashad McCants in the corner every play and not really let him contribute and if we draft an impact player like Rubio, that wouldn't fly. But I am craving defense. I can't stand how any PG can break down our defense and completely disrupt the rest of our defense and create ridiculously easy shots for his teammates. I think that is my only concern with Rubio, his lack of lateral speed.

yes. Casey's claim to fame was being a mediocre coach that looked amazing next to Witt's ensuing performance. So then it was "see, Casey was actually a good coach." But Casey had a lot of suckdom going on in his own right. He could've been serviceable with time and experience, but he didn't have any extraordinary or irreplaceable coaching gifts.

Ya Casey is really best suited as an assistant coach. He probably didn't deserve to get fired but he wasn't perfect either. j2j hit it on the money that casey had some really bad rotations and offensive sets. I think it's starting to be more of a sure thing that Mchale is outta here. I really have no clue on who could be our coach next year or who I think should be our coach next year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I dont know a ton about Budenholzer, but isnt he primarily a defensive guy too? I wonder what his offense consists of?

Taylor would never hire Saunders, Casey, or Wittman, because as we all know it's 100% their fault we suck.

if we could combine efforts of them all... we'd be in good shape. Saunders's offensive scheming, Casey preaching defense, McHale getting the most effort/hussle and lowpost tricks out of them, and Wittman scrubbing toilets. we'd have a great coached team with a spiffy bathroom.
