Take Rubio with #1 Pick?

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:01 pm

With all of the Rubio love out there right now, I'll renew the big question:

When we get the #1 pick, should we take Griffin or Rubio?

And if your answer is "Take Griffin and trade for #2 .. are there any teams that if they got the #2 that you wouldn't take the risk of them saying no?

Truthfully, any of them would scare me that they might say no. Some are a little less likely than others, but the possibility exists. After our "bluff" on Roy for Foye + filler got called and it was Foye and cash, I'd be very hesitant. I believe a potential trade that got pulled is how Chicago wound up with Fizer, even though they had Brand.

Not sure what kind of significant value we'd get from a team at #2 anyways.

I wouldn't risk it.

The second we win the lottery I get on the phone and try to move either Love or Jefferson for the #2 and draft both.

It would be exceptionally nice if the team that got the #2 pick had a big talented expiring and we could package Jefferson, Gomes, and Cardinal for that expiring and have enough room for two max free agents to add to Rubio, Griffin, Love, and Foye in 2010. If only the Rockets were in the lottery. :-) Yao and Jefferson would be a nasty combination.

C - Love
PF - Griffin
SF - McGrady
SG - Foye
PG - Rubio

That might be sexy enough to lure Joe Johnson and ok yeah, no one's coming here. But if we were New York, and that was our roster, Joe Johnson and LeBron would fit in there beautifully.

I quit.

I think of Griffin as a sure thing, I'm pretty reluctant when it comes to European imports.

There has never been a euro import like Rubio.

What are the chances he pulls a Yi Jianlian and refuses to play for a small club?(I know Milwaukee drafted him, but i'm pretty sure his agents bitched their way into getting him to New Jersey)

Do we take him anyway

Nope. I would take Griffin and move Love or Jefferson. If we could do something based around Jefferson for Rubio then draft Griffin and bring over Pekovic, I would be very, very satisfied.

Yes, but I have not heard any concern about it. With Yi we knew about that pretty early.

You mean the bust from Indiana? Or did I miss something?

EDIT: Oh I see what you did there. You called Ricky Rubio a bust.

Are you sure you are not highly overvalueing Griffin?

I don't think he'll be as good as Jefferson.

I don't know if he'll be as good as Jefferson, but he definitely could be. I personally like his style more than Jefferson's.

Bailey was an 8th grade phenom who supposedly had a great basketball IQ. I was mainly kidding though.
