There's been some discussion on the Wizards board whether MIN would take this trade, and I can't give them a straight answer. Would you do it?

MIN GETS: #2 (Rubio) + Stevenson (2 yr) + Songalia (2 yr)

WAS GETS: #5 (Harden?) + Mike Miller

For MIN, Rubio certainly has the potential to be a franchise-level PG, but for MIN, the cost is

#5
+ whatever they can get for Mike Miller
+ $9 mil in raw 2010 cap space.

The value of the last one is hard to pin down, but it would be up there.

VOTE -- Would you do this deal?

The roster spot hurts us actually. Possible to make it Cardinal and Smith instead? If so, I'd do that. Even toss in the Boston pick or a 2nd rounder if it would help tip the scales.

Then I would spend all year benching Stevenson and Songalia, and pay the local writers(it won't cost much) to write really negative stories about those two so they opt out of their deals.

I would give them our Cardinal/Madsen expirings + a pick, but not Mike Miller.

Yes I would do it. But I agree from a roster spot position it's tough to be taking back more players than we give out.

Not necessarily Heck yes!, but I would reluctantly do it, but I first would want to see if a Cardinal+picks deal could be plausible.

The roster spots worry me a bit. Not just because we are taking back more players than we send out but we send out probably the only guy that we can use in a deal to help trim down roster spots. Cardinal + Madsen is probably not getting much done down the road.

I'm worried about Rubio's buyout. Right now it's $6 Million. I just have a hunch he's going to be drafted and then be stuck playing over there for another year.

I lean towards saying no.

Mike Miller is a necessary inclusion, because Stevenson is currently their starting SG, and because they have a team that has play-off ambitions when everyone is healthy.

Harden wouldn't become their starting 2?

Or with Flip as coach they're talking about moving Butler to the 2, Jamison to the 3, and starting one of their Uber Studs at 4 and Haywood at the 5.

Just take derozan at 5, spin MM to another team for a pick 8-12 range and take mullens or budinger, take teague at #18, take hansbourugh at #28 and call it a draft.

Al is out for awhile so we might as well let some young kids play. Maybe shift foye back to playing some point after he has some time in the offseason to work on his pg abilities

It's interesting, Miller plus cap space is almost exactly what Memphis gave to swap Love for Mayo.

I'd trade Harden, Miller and cap space for Rubio in a second; partially because of talent level, partially because of position played and partially because Rubio would raise the excitement level around the team which it needs to sell tickets (that is unless Harden goes off like Roy next season). I also don't think the cap space is as valuable as some think. With a number of teams having space in 2010, I think between our climate and losing record we'll be well down the lists of the top tier free agents.

I would do it. I don't really see the point why the wizards should look to add 2 sg with Miller and Harden, though. They have got Young as their prospect. Miller can play SF also, but Butler gets the majority of minutes there and I don't think they will want that Harden and/or Young to collect DNP's.

Harden was just someone the Wolves would consider at the #5 spot, so threw it in my post for context. Theoretically, something like this would be worked out in advance and the Wizards could pick whoever they wanted at #5.

I would do it for Rubio. Rubio >> Harden (or whever else you want to draft there). Rubio is a future all-star PG. Rubio >> Mayo.

WAS wants to contend, so they'd want the experienced Mike Miller. I assume he'd start at the 2 regardless of who they get at #5, but he's certainly a capable 6th man too (Sixth man of the Year award a couple years back). In any event, I think he's necessary for the trade.

I'm ambivalent. I don't know how far on the bell curve Rubio is, but I envision big things for that raw cap space, particularly since its in the crucial 2010 off-season.

Call me crazy, but I don't think that a rotation of 5 shooting guards, 3 power forwards, and Vin Diesel would win very many games.

What a great trade idea. To have a playmaking guard like Rubio would do wonders for our perimeter players (see: Foye, Randy).

I dont think the Wiz bite on this, as they would have a huge clog in the 1-3 spots. Id Like to see the draft order before proposing any deals like this.

I'd just draft Rubio were I the Wiz.

Tough decision as I hate those 2 yr deals and burning roster spots this way, but I think I would have to say yes in the end.
