If you could sign one FA for $3-4M/year this offseason

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Fri May 1, 2009 5:10 am

... Who would it be?

Conditions:

Has to be realistic. Sessions/Ariza/Childress etc. are not going to sign for $3-4M. I say $3-4M because assuming the salary cap doesn't shrink (and I'll need Shrink's help on this) the Wolves should be somewhere between $3-4M under the cap assuming they sign all three rookies at last years rookie scale figures.

My choice: Marcin Gortat.

I've always thought this guy was really really good. He's been stuck backing up Howard so he rarely plays. Tonight he finally started and shined putting up 11 and 15 with 4 steals. He would be a quality backup for us that could play with either Jefferson or Love. After he shines we can either trade him or Pekovic.

We'll have the MLE and would be stupid to sign anybody to a multi-year contract.

I like the Gortat pick, he would be an effective center for us with Al out(even with him back)

I'll +1 on your pick Dr.

I agree on Gortat also. But i heard rumors of him going back overseas, maybe not.

Matt Barnes i would be interested in, though in our style he may not work as well.

Felton maybe?

Let's give Gortat a max deal, just for the fun of it.

I'm not so sure about that, they might not have a choice. Major companies are worth a fraction of what they were less than 24 mos ago, people have been laid off en masse, guy like Ariza might get 7 mil in a normal year if he's lucky, 3-4 sounds about right. As for Childress, he had a weak season overseas and got injured, who's gonna pony up for him?

If Matt Barns ever has any association with this franchise I will never admit that I was, at any point in my life a fan or even interested in being a fan.

I'd probably go after a player from a team called Hawks.

I wouldn't sign anybody, but at the lower end of that price range Kleiza wouldn't be horrible.

Does Atlanta still have the right to match any offer for Childress? I don't know whether they would or not, but I'm curious as to whether they could.

They still hold his rights and I think he's considered an RFA. So my assumption is yes.

I like the "which PG can/should we trade Mike Miller for" game better: Andre Miller, Felton, TJ Ford, Calderon, Hinrich...still building the list.

Can we trade Mike Miller for Derrick Rose and Kirk Hinrich? Chicago needs the cap savings.

Chicago fans are about ready to murder Hinrich right now. That man needs to watch his back.
