OT: John Wall charged in break-in

John Wall, the country's top unsigned high school recruit in basketball, has been charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering, WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C., has reported.

Wall, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard ranked fifth in the ESPNU 100's Class of 2009, was cited in connection with an April 27 break-in of a Raleigh residence, police told the TV station.

According to the report, a police officer detained Wall, 18, after observing him leaving out the back of the home. Two minors were also detained and charged in connection with the break-in.

Police said there was no forced entry and nothing to indicate anything was missing from the residence, WRAL-TV reported.

so the door was unlocked and nothing was taken? So technically he wasn't breaking and entering, just entering and leaving

Maybe he was in the front of the house and wanted to get to the other side, so instead of walking around the house, he took a shortcut.

The big picture could be if it effects college eligibility. Are we past the date now that he can declare for this draft?

As a wolves fan I can not confirm or deny this question.

I get thrown off because of European players being able to un-declare themselves so late. I was not sure if Wall, with his unique situation, would have something weird like that. I know it is past the date for college, but I was unsure if that was an NBA sanctioned thing, or a college sanctioned thing.

The story I read said it was an unlocked, unoccupied house. I got the impression it was a foreclosed house or a house for sale that was unlocked. It also said they caught him as he was walking out and nothing was missing.

I don't want to be "that guy", but is it possible this is a case of just a kid being curious and checking it out? It would make more sense if he was like 12 or something, but I don't see the huge crime he committed here, at least off the info I've read anyways. 18 year old kid walks through a house, neighbor sees him, and calls the cops. And again, I don't want to be "that guy", but what are the chances that the neighbor happened to notice the color of his skin?

Yeah he shouldn't have walked in the house, but until more information is released, I'm not ready to throw him under the bus, yet.

But yeah, dude, you're supposed to be the fastest end to end dribbler in America, do you slow down when you don't have a ball in your hand? There's a joke in there somewhere about jail and balls and hands and the shower and doubly fast, but this is a family place and I'm not going there.

Why's that? Do you think his father would be happy that he's getting criminal charges against him? If my father was dead and I was going to college to honor him, I probably wouldn't want to do something like this, which basically dishonors him.

rumor is he was at a house party, the house was forclosed/abandanded. just a kid being a kid. to bad people on here have to be racist than reverse racist about such a simple story. i'm fed up with most of the posters here, hopefully you young, confused kids open your eyes someday.

I didn't see any post in this thread that was racist. Hey, the kid's a kid. He's gonna make some mistakes, that's what being 18 is all about. That said, he's also a high-visibility figure so he needs to realize what he does is gonna be in the spotlight. He got cited, now he's getting embarrassed. Seems a fitting punishment for the crime committed. Hopefully he won't screw up again.

This is comparable to getting a speeding ticket. Does that dishonor his father?
