Wolves to host huge pre-draft group workout

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Sat May 16, 2009 2:27 am

This is a tentative list of who's attending. It says 42 invites, but I count 32 players, I don't know if that means there are 10 more unlisted, or if they meant to type 32. That is a hell of a group. If you look at the list, they are clearly paying quite a bit of attention to trying to upgrade PG. The list is loaded with point guards.

Glad to see Ben Woodside getting an invite. He's the next Steve Nash after all. Could be a good pickup with the Boston pick if we go big with the Miami pick.

If we want Woodside (and I'd actually like to see him on our summer squad), we can get him as an undrafted FA most likely.

It says the GS workout is planned June 1-3 and ours is June 2-3 and it lists a few players on each list ex. Budinger. How does Budinger plan to be in two places at the same time or is he going to workout for one day and then fly directly to the next workout?

No Derozan or Harden, means we're going Ty Evans with our first pick! ;-)

Nice to see them getting on it finally. Now that Penn is essentially on board (knocks on wood), Hoiberg is going to be our lead talent evaluator so there is no reason to wait.

I think this is to evaluate people that could be around all of picks except the first pick. There is more strategy and smoke screens involved with the #5 (or whatever pick we end up getting).

Better than Mike Mills & Patty Smith. (At least in transition.)

If he can be in two places at once, he's definitely a lotto pick.

it's unfortunate to see Hansbrough and Harangody on the list, though...

Is Hansbrough able to play the 2 or 3 at all? I mean, if we pick him up with a late pick, I don't think it would be any more foolish than picking another unproven player. At this point, everyone expects TH to be a bust, so if he came in as the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench and could hit some open jumpers, he could be useful.....maybe?

Hopefully no Harden/DeRozan is just a smokescreen, because...honestly.

per Strib...

The Houston workout is for guys who may be available in the teens and twenties, that's
why there's no Harden, etc. Some of the invitees are obviously less likely than others to actually be available (i.e Curry vs Hansbrough) but you get the idea. No smokescreen. Just sunscreen. Houston can get pretty wicked hot and humid by this time of year.

The Houston workout is a different one.

Harden/DeRozan don't have any schedule work outs yet as far as I can tell. I think all the top notch prospects are waiting for the lottery before scheduling workouts.
