MIN-LAC trade idea

Well with LAC getting pick #1 they all of a sudden have too many bigs. (Jordan, Griffin, Kaman, Camby, Randolph) So here is my proposed deal:

MIN gives/LAC gets:
Mike Miller
Nikola Pekovic
BOS 1st round pick

LAC gives/MIN gets:
Kaman
MIN first returned

LAC
PG: B. Davis
SG: Gordon/R. Davis
SF: Thorton/Miller
PF: Griffin/Randolph
C: Camby/Jordan

LAC would then have Pekovic to replace Camby after the next season. I view the BOS pick as a neutral to negative assest in this draft and the guarenteed contract it carries.

MIN
PG: Curry/Telfair
SG: Brewer/Carney
SF: Gomes/MIA pick
PF: Jefferson/Love
C: Kaman/Jefferson

Ideally I'd try to combine the MIA pick and Smith into a better pick to get a better wing player than what I think will be availible in the mid first.

I think we'd probably be able to do the deal with Pekovic or #28 and not have to do both. Does allow us to use #6 and #18 on fixing the back court.

With kaman's contract and defensive issues it would be similar to a Hinrich trade. His value is not that high. They likely will take an expiring and late pick for him if we wanted him.

Do we?

No thanks on Kaman. He's proven that he can't play with a dominant PF. His only decent season was when Brand was hurt all year, otherwise he's a grossly overpair 12/7 guy. Then figure in we have Jefferson AND Love, Kaman becomes lukewarm garbage.

Its an interesting idea though.

There is a rumor going around that Kaman-for-Hinrich might happen. I thought comparing the three might make sense:

Kaman: 10,400,000 11,300,000 12,200,000
Miller: 9,880,937
Hinrich: 9,500,000 9,000,000 8,000,000

Kaman: 8.0 RPG, 1.5 APG, 12.0 PPG 29.7mpg
Miller: 6.6 RPG, 4.5 APG, 9.9 PPG 32.3mpg
Hinrich: 2.4 RPG, 3.9 APG, 9.9 PPG 26.3mpg

Miller had almost as many boards as Kaman, and more assists than Hinrich. All three may be overpaid, but Miller is an expiring for the 2010 free agency grab. I think he has more trade value than the other two.

I guess it all depends on other moves, but if we're talking Kaman and pick returned for Miller and #28, I'd be tempted.
PRO:
-With Al out til January, Kaman would fit in nicely at C next to Love.
-If were not keeping all our picks this year (Sichting said as much on PA today) then I'd rather try and use a pick as part of a deal for something that fit our needs.
-We can use #6 and #18 to fix our back court needs and then we have PG, SG, and C addressed.
-If Kaman, Al, and Love didn't work out, I think all 3 would have trade appeal for various reasons. Kaman is overpaid, but he's still a legitimate NBA center who can actually score and rebound.
-Moving Miller for a big allows Gomes and Brewer more time at SF and helps the log jam there.
-If we could keep the asset that is Pekovic and get our number 1 back from the Clippers, that opens up other deals.

CON:
-Kaman's best numbers came with Brand out. Can he play with a dominant PF? Right now he's playing with ball hogging PF in Randolph and the Clippers are a mess, so I'm not sure how much to read into the last season.
-Kaman's contract isn't pretty. Are we better served giving the MLE to someone like ZaZa to take the minutes when Al and Love aren't playing together?
-Can Miller be moved for a better player? Not necessarily a better contract, but a better fit.

Don't we want a center who can play defense if we're going to make a move?

The Clips def arent getting the pick from us next year, so getting it back isnt really a priority to me. Adding Kaman on top of that just makes me want to throw up.

Oh how quickly we turn. A few years ago it was Kaman this and Kaman that.

His stock has dropped with us for sure. Clippers fans didn't get that memo.

I'm sure there's a joke in there about Andrew Bogut and his broke back and being a mountain of a man.

I say pass on both Kaman and Bogut.

Every year, there are always 2-3 sleeper big men in the draft, and a lot of them are pretty good athletes. We just need to have a plan and know what we're looking for.
