How much would you give for rubio?

Post#1 » by the_bruce » Thu May 21, 2009 9:30 am

After reading the other poll and seeing people in favor of a love for rubio swap, and even including jefferson for rubio based swaps I was flabbergasted.

I came up with the most horrific trade to MEM to get the #5, Lets just suppose MEM would rather have 2 pick than simply 1. I gave instant cap space, a future pick, took back 2010 salary.

WAS GETS: Mike Miller + Gomes + Cards + Utah pick
MIN GETS: Etan Thomas + Mike James + Stevenson + Songolia + Crit + pech #2
MEM GETS: #5 + #6

This trade won't happen just because we get too many players in return

If Rubio doesn't want to play in MEM, I doubt he wants to play in MIN.

Good lord that seems like a lot of positive to send out and a lot of negative coming back just to get Rubio. It's basically mortgaging our entire future with no room to add to Jefferson/Love/Rubio. That's not enough to be a contender.

Memphis wins huge in the trade, and Washington does a little too well also.

For me I feel like Rubio is going to be a great player. My problem is similar to others mentioned. What if he doesnt want to play in Minnesota? Also you want to make sure you dont give up the farm to get the 2nd pick. I think this is a situation similar to the vikings and Harvin. Talk with the player and see if he wants to come here or atleast if hed be ok coming here. Feel out this player situation and then draft accordingly. If Rubio will play here and we can get the 2nd pick at a good reasonable price then I say lets do it. Otherwise I think that the Washington pick is much more obtainable and if you have 5 and 6 you can get a real nice package together. Another option is finding a way to move up and taking Thabeet, that is another guy I am in favor of as well.

Man I would seriously give up almost anything not named jefferson (within reason) to move up to the 2 spot. We need a gamechanger, taking another chance on a Corey Brewer type just isn't going to do us any good. A guy like Rubio would instantly make everyone else better around him. I would be down to send our 6, some players and hell even one of our later 1st rounders if it meant getting him. Stock piling more and more young players isn't going to do us any good either.

its far to much for me. Regardless of whether Rubio wants to play in a small market team which I dont think you need to factor in. MN basicly trades away the assets from the mike Miller trade and then some.

7m in 2010 cap space
Mike Miller

Then other parts...
Gomes
Post lotto Utah pick

Are somewhat offset by a few things...
Crit has some value probably equal to Utah pick
Gomes is essentially an expiring to this team since his option will not be picked up

One other point this drops WAS under the lux. This would be close in value for me if I actually ever wanted Rubio and not far off of what I'd pay for #5.

Right now I wouldn't do anything until we got confirmation that he would play here.
