Mike Miller - #4 SG in WoW

SG OV Player Team GP GS MIN WP WP/48
1 4 Dwyane Wade Miami 79 79 3,048 21.0 0.331

2 12 Brandon Roy Portland 78 78 2,903 14.5 0.240

3 14 Kobe Bryant LA Lakers 82 82 2,960 13.9 0.226

4 17 Mike Miller Minnesota 73 47 2,356 13.2 0.270

Miller's rebounding really helps, and he does a lot of things besides scoring that help a team win.

I liked the line about :
"For the benefit of the many posters who consider this site homework-optional, I submit the following list of generic positions that NEED NOT EVER BE ELABORATED UPON EVEN ONE MORE TIME:"

E. My friend/ brother-in-law’s boss/ opinionated alter-ego hasn’t read or studied your work, but I told him the results say Mike Miller is way better the Richard Jefferson OR Rip Hamilton, and he says you’re clearly deluded

Here's info on the Wins Produced stat (and the more easily calculated "Win Scores")

Determine the relative value of each statistic. Our research indicates that the relative value of a point, rebound, steal, turnover, and field goal attempt – in absolute terms – is equal. Assists, blocked shots, free throw attempts, and personal fouls – again in absolute terms – are each worth less than a point, a rebound, etc… To keep it simple, one can argue that each of these latter stats is worth ½ a point, rebound, etc… Now the ½ value is not exact, but using ½ keeps it simple and we find one gains very little using the exact relative value. In other words, player rankings do not change very much when you use the exact values.

So given this argument, one can measure performance with this simple calculation, which we call Win Score.

Points + Rebounds + Steals + ½Assists + ½Blocked Shots – Field Goal Attempts – Turnovers – ½Free Throw Attempts – ½Personal Fouls

Anyway, I was suspicious of the fact that a RB is worth a point, but it means an additional possession, so that seems accurate. "Wins Produced" is more complex. The startling thing is that when you add up all the players on a team, you almost always come within a few games of having their exact team's record. Why play those games anymore?

part of this is clearly the over value wow puts on rebounding. but millers stats would be ok if he was the 4th option pg. but that is not what he was brought in for. he is an incredibly frustrating player to me.

This definitely goes to show how useless a stat Wages of Wins is.

Somebody needs to make a Mike Miller character for WoW. I'd cross over into nerdom for that.
