Slow Form RealGM Mock Draft

Post#1 » by dice » Sat May 23, 2009 8:00 pm

No clock here!

When the Wolves board makes their call I move on to the next team board. I'll wait until it seems a clear frontrunner has been determined. If that cannot be accomplished a selection will be made for you :wizard:

1. Griffin
2. Rubio
3. Thabeet
4. Harden
5. Evans

And with the #6 pick Minnesota takes...?

Can we quit instead? Evans and Harden were my top two choices. Tell Sac-town they have to take Jennings. Harden and Martin don't work. Cowbell waving bass-turds. And Washington's supposed to take Jordan Hill.

I guess we take Demar DeRozan.

heh. the sac-town board rationalized taking harden as BPA thinking they could then trade him or martin. of course, like every other team outside the top 2 they want to trade their pick to begin with

taking a look at one of the other threads here i have a feeling this turns into a derozan signoff, but didn't wanna speak for the board

i will indeed tell the sacramento board that they have to take jennings though. we'll see if they change their collective mind

I just completed a first round mock draft yesterday. I thought it went fairly well. Getting an actual consensus from each board, especially once you get out of the top five, is kind of a tough task. Teams like GS, NY, TOR & LAL have multiple forces pulling in different directions. Other boards have so few posters (NO, MEM, OK) that there is not much of a consensus to be had. That's why I elected to do the draft as I did and let the others argue after.

whether I want DeRozan or Jennings depends on who is available at 18...which sucks...I'll go for DeRozan just help create a consensus.

*edit* I should explain this better...I want a starting back court combo in the 1st round out of 6th and 18th. I figure there's more likely a difference maker PG at 18 (Maynor/Lawson/Curry/Flynn/Holiday) than a difference maker SG (Terrence Williams?)...it's close though, I'm very tempted to say Jennings.

Jennings by a long shot after Harden.

DeRozan. As others have said, good point guards should be available at 18, and I see Jennings as a more likely bust than DeRozan due to his size, shot, and defense. I'll definitely be hoping for Harden to be there instead though.

In this draft, you're not guaranteed a starter at #6, much less #18. DeRozan might be great down the road, but he's going to need time. I don't expect any of our draft picks to be starting at the beginning of the season.

Which is why I'm pulling for a Curry/Mullins/SF (Daye?) draft, then trade for a PG. Curry can contribute right away, Mullins has major upside, and Brewer and Miller can both play the 2, if needed.

I'd go Curry at #6. After that, I'd look at Holiday, since he could contribute with D right away. DeRozan wouldn't piss me off, but I don't think he'd help much right off the bat.

I don't think we're expecting to win all that much next year anyway (especially if Jefferson isn't ready right away). I think DeRozan has a very bright future and will definitely be starter material with a little time, which is why I want him at 6. EASILY the overall best and deepest position in this draft is PG, which is encouraging for our PG starved team. I think that's the one position that it's very feasible that a potential starter could be had at 18.

Evans is my first choice as well. He can be a lead guard and would work best with Foye's skill set.

That being said, it looks like its either Jennings or Derozan. Both have huge upside, are super athletic, but have lots of question marks.

Purley based off of need and how much a great PG really helps mediocre teams (See New Orleans), I would have to swing for the fences and select Jennings. I would love trade with Washington and get Evans and Jennings.

DeRozan!! Give the kid some time to develop his outside shot and we have the closest thing to kobe in the draft on our hands! I love his upside, he is so athletic...Harden is ready to play but I don't see him getting any better than he is and watch the tourny to see how well he can take over and create...he just isn't that fluid or athletic. DeRozan > Brewer at the 3

This is worst case scenario, no doubt. I guess I'd go with DeRozan over Jennings. But Haden or
Evans (or Thabeet) ought to fall.

DeRozan easily. I really hope Hill goes in the top 5 so we have a choice between 2 good prospects.

Derozan.

And I'd take DeRozan if Evans and (maybe) Harden were available.

Our fan base is already so close to walking off the ledge. A worse-case draft does not help.

There is almost no chance we hold onto this pick come draft time, so there is no point to dignify the OP>

If we trade the pick, I'll most likely come pretty close to walking the ledge. There's absolutely no sensible reason to, unless a Chris Paul type player is coming our way. The worst possible thing that could happen right now is an attempt to trade our way into mediocrity,
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''
