Who has the best value for the Wolves @ pick 18?

Post#1 » by PeeDee » Wed May 27, 2009 4:38 pm

Many of the mocks have a number of players that could be of great value for the Wolves that happen to fit their most dire needs (C, Wing, Point). The question is, if many of these players are available at 18, who do you think is the best value for the Wolves?

Here is a list of prospects that many of the main mock drafts have available at or after we pick at 18:

BJ Mullens
Jeff Teague
Eric Maynor
Chase Budinger
Ty Lawson
Austin Daye
James Johnson
Sam Young
Terrance Williams

Any I'm missing? Any you think might creep into that territory as we get closer to the draft? Who might slip to #18 we're not expecting?

Terrance williams if we go with a pg early
Teague, Lawson, or Maynor if we go with a SG early

Budinger or Mullens would be great fits too.

it depends heavily on what we do with our other assets. If we trade Miller to washington and get #5 then I would think that the best selection would be Budinger (kind of a miller clone). Lawson and Mullens would be great as well at #18.

I understand the Mullens hype and think he got a raw deal at OSU, but I'd rather take my chances on a ready Pek than him. Perhaps we can stash Mullens and allow him to develop, but the future of this franchise in Minny may depend on a good 2009 season and more immediate production.

I like Teague here because I don't think we'll get a chance at Lawson. Shoots well, can slash, and can create off the dribble. But I think he's better suited for the 2 than the 1. I don't think we'll look at him if we grab Evans @ #6, instead we'll probably be looking at Lawson/Maynor. Both of whom I really like as well. But IMO a DeRozan/Teague combo would be explosive. I really like Collison @ 28 to finish off the rotation. It would be a small backcourt, but very quick.

Mullens, Teague, and Lawson are probably the top 3.

Mullens/Maynor, depending on we grab with our 1st pick. I might be talked into Teague also.

Grabbing Mullens does not lose Pek. It gives us a year to develop Mullens and then move one of them as a trade asset next summer. If we go PG with the first pick then Mullens should be our goal with 18. If we got Thabeast or wing then a pg that falls due to numbers (curry/lawson/holiday) would be the best pick.

But it is likely traded anyway.

So you're saying both the 6 and 18 are likely traded?

I like Lawson or Mullens at 18 but what are the chances that Daye is around at 28? He is a definite project but I think he could end up being worth the risk.

I'm not willing to bank anything on if Pek comes over or not. Run the team with what we have and what we need. If Pek comes over, it's a welcomed surprise.

IF Love were to be traded, I'd take a chance on Mullens, but besides that I just can't get optimistic about his future.

Teague is starting to make a re-emergence on my wish list at 18 for no real reason of something he did but more just me thinking about it.

Maynor/Lawson/Teague are probably my top 3 there right now.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

I almost am thinking Teague is the best VALUE @ 18 by default. His skills (at least on offense) directly translate to the NBA. However his fit on the Wolves is debateable.

I'm intrigued by a Harden/Teague backcourt for some reason now.

If we picked Harden or DeRozan at 6 and made no trade for a PG:

Lawson, Teague, Maynor, Mullens in that order

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I do not have specifics, but there are numerous trade options available. I would be beyond surprised if 60% of this current roster remains next year.

BTW, Ford's newest mock is up. He has us going Harden/Mullens/Collison. Not bad. He has Holiday going #4 to SAC.

Harden/Flynn (via trade) for me.

I could handle that.

So, I like Holliday probably MORE than the next guy, but does anyone think he should truly go top 4? Seriously?

I think if Holiday went to any college that wasnt UCLA, he probably would be a top-7 pick
