If Rubio/Harden are gone, what are the best guard tandems?

Post#1 » by Dan's with the Wolves » Thu Jun 4, 2009 7:04 pm

If Rubio and Harden are drafted in the top 4 as most mocks predict and we can't trade up to get one of them? What are the next best possible backcourt tandems the Wolves could target in this draft?

It seems the Wolves have enough trade assets to get any two players projected to go between 6 and 18. Worst case they stay put and draft 6 and 18.

Possible PGs
Jennings, Flynn, Lawson, Maynor, Collison, Mills

Possible PG/SGs
Evans, Curry, Holiday, Teague, Calathes, Douglas

Posibble SGs
Henderson, Ellington.

Possible SG/SFs
Derozan, Williams

Who is in your Fave Five guard tandems of this draft?
Rubio/Harden
Evans/Williams
Holiday/Williams
Curry/Henderson
Teague/Henderson

Jennings/ DeRozan would be my favorite.

Evans/Teague, Evans/Lawson, I'd even be intrigued by your boy Holiday and Curry

I try to warm up to Derozan but it's just too hard, I don't know why.

I'm not really too concerned about tandems. As long as we get either Evans or Holiday if Harden is gone, then I'm happy. If Henderson drops to 18, then sweet.

Although Evans/DeRozan or Holiday/DeRozan would be fun.

Ignoring DSW and his Kickboxer non-sense, I think Evans or Holiday with DeRozan would be like the Fab Five walking into Michigan.

Don't tell DSW I dissed JCVD. He'll make me bleed.

EDIT: OH CRAP!

With the 6 and 18 I think my favorite tandem is Holiday and Henderson. If we can trade I like Holiday and DeRozan.

Evans-Curry or Evans-DeRozan would be pretty intriguing, but I'd go with Holiday-DeRozan if we could trade up.

If we kept 6 and 18 and were required to go guard after Holiday at 6, I'd go Holiday-Henderson I guess.

If you zoom in closely, you can see Al Gore shedding a tear in the background.

Which by the way, this quote disturbs my Achy Breaky Heart. Maybe because of Hannah Montana.

Jennings seems like he's dropping right now, almost to the point where it may not take much to trade up from #18 to get him. A Harden/Jennings backcourt would intrigue me.

Yeah I have cooled off on DeRozan for some reason lately, I don't know why....but given those circumstances, I'd have to go with a Evans/DeRozan combo. Mainly because DeRozan could take some time to develop with Foye and Brewer/Miller out there and Evans could just be unleashed immediately. Long term, that gives us Evans/Foye/DeRozan in the guard front and I think Foye/DeRozan could both time up pretty closely in terms of breaking out. Foye seems so close if he can stay healthy.

I'd vote for pairing a shooter with a slasher/defender, hopefully both of whom can handle the ball.

Curry/Henderson
or
Holiday/Budinger
or
Harden/Lawson
