Challenge your offseason

Post#1 » by the_bruce » Fri Jun 5, 2009 4:03 pm

Your ideal draft or offseason result.

The rules:
You can only make 1 draft day trade. So any realistic trade up is allowable.
You must use DX draft rankings position +/- 2 positions, but can't trade for griffin.
You can use any assets excluding Al & Love. This includes future cap space.
You can't rob the other team, so make it fair!
List your reasons for the wolves, list your reasons for the other teams in trade scenarios

moving love is a real possibility of the offer is proper. also you should have two trades. we could have a very active offseason including moving around in the draft, taking on a vet contract and potentially a s/t situation. please update the rules.

btw snp does a good mock of this on canis

I think he meant just one draft day trade. I could be wrong though.

I don't think there's any good reason for trading Love now, with Jefferson out, Love should be playing 35+ minutes a game and if he improves over the summer, he could improve his trade value 43-47% by playing him that time with Al out. That's all hypothetical though for those that get sick kicks out of trading away future hall of famers.

If we can trade away Marko Jaric, then we can trade Kevin Love. You're putting the Kevlar on a pedestal. A pedestal that Jaric built with blood, sweat, and tears.

Honestly, that's the first Hinrich deal I don't hate. I would do that.

Except we've been down the Noah road numerous times and Chicago fans wouldn't even trade him for the #6 overall.

it's 1 draft day trade, make as many additional trades as you can imo. It's simply unlikely that there will be 2 impact things that happen on draft day regarding picks. e.g. trading up with 2 different teams to get 3 picks 1-13.

To lazy to look at snp mock atm, ill lok at it some other time.

-Alright I won't go over 1 draft day trade (I did cheat and trade for the rights to a few players); also since this is an ideal situation, it is a little far-fetched but it's what I think is ideal.

Before draft
With Philly
Speights/Green for Foye/Madsen
Why Philly? Foye would look very good with them and I know that a few Philly posters have been real interested in him.

with dallas and orlando
Dallas
stack/sh. williams/2 million cash for M. Miller
Why Dallas? They get Miller without hurting their 2010 cap space and improve quite a bit.
Orlando
battie/2011 1st/3 million cash for stack
Why Orlando? They save over 4 million dollars and it helps them stay below luxury tax
MN
miller for battie/2011 1st/5 million cash/Sh. Williams

#6 DeRozan, #18 Mullens, #28 Mills

On July 1 after salaries switch over
with Memphis
out jefferson, cardinal for 10million TPE, 6.75 million TPE, rights to #2 (Rubio), 2011 1st
Why Memphis? They get the PF that they really need in Jefferson and would have a solid young core of players.

with Milwaukee
2 part trade
1) Ridnour, rights to #10 Henderson for TPE 6.75 million
2) Elson, Allen for Telfair
Milwaukee Why? They save a lot of cap space so they don't go into the luxury tax

with Detroit
kwame, amir, rights to #15 Earl Clark, 3 million cash for part of 10 million TPE
Why Detroit? If they're interested in moving amir and #15 for cap space (I don't know if they are or not), but adding in Kwame and 3 million cash is even an added bonus.

with New Orleans
D. Brown, rights to #21 Casspi for rights to #45 and #47, part of 10 million TPE
Why New Orleans? They save some money by getting rid of #21 and Brown; they also get 2 2nd's which would fill out their roster

with New Jersey
Hassell, S. Williams, future GS 1st, 2010 2nd for Gomes, C. Smith, B. Brown
Why NJ? They get 2 players that would help them out in Gomes and Smith.

Buyout Malik Allen, Francisco Elson, Sh. Williams, D. Brown, kwame brown (10,523,639 in salary; we got 8 million in trades and a few players may take a little less in a buyout)

New Roster
Rubio/Ridnour/Mills
Henderson/Brewer/Green/
DeRozan/Clark/Brewer/Hassell
Love/Amir/Clark/Battie/S. Williams
Speights/Amir/Mullens/Battie

-We have a new young exciting team (Rubio, Henderson, Brewer, DeRozan, Clark, Love, Amir, Speights, Mullens); a few veterans to help out the young guys in Ridnour, Green, Hassell, and Battie. We would give our young players lots of minutes and let them develop and see what we have for talent and then prepare to make a splash in 2010 offseason.

In 2010 offseason, we would have salaries of
Ricky Rubio 4,793,280
Willie Green 3,976,000
Corey Brewer 3,703,472
Kevin Love 3,638,280
Demar DeRozan 3,192,000
Gerald Henderson 2,331,120
Earl Clark 1,803,720
Marreese Speights 1,773,960
BJ Mullens 1,546,560
Patrick Mills 1,078,800
-with maybe Amir or S. Williams as well (Ridnour, Hassell, and Battie would be gone)
-which is 27,837,192 in total salary + 5 million maybe for 2010 1st; which would give us a ton of cap space to add someone. The most that we would have is 38 million committed and that is a very conservative estimate, and that would be enough to sign a max free agent.

-We would have young talent, and a couple of them should develop into quality starters
-flexibility (cap wise and young talent to trade if we want).
-We also have several future assets to either find role players or package in a deal for a starter (rights to Casspi, orlando 2011 1st, memphis 2011 1st, future GS 1st)

Dude, you went uber-shrink on that!!! That is an exciting young team...emphasis on young. 3 rookies and 2 sophs starting. I don't mind it I guess but we would need the right coach to develop them (not Randy Wittman).

My trade:
OKC Gets: rights to Pekovic, #6 Derozan
OKC Gives: #3 Harden, Watson

MN Gets: Harden, Watson
MN Gives: Rights to pekovic, Derozan

Why for OKC:
They trade down a few slots and get a great euro prospect center that can come over in a year or 2.

Why for MN:
They get one of the players they need the most, and get a vet PG to help run the team for awhile.

#18 Earl Clark
Plays as athletic big man in 3 man rotation with al + love. Should be able to play some 3 with them as well. Clark could be a mismatch nightmare @ the 3, can certainly be a faceup 4, and has the length to guard 5's. He would work solid as the 3rd big with more athleticism with love & al.

#28 Beabouis
Low risk high reward guard with a great handle and crazy athletic abilities.

#45 & #47
Derrick Brown or damion James if available, use other pick on a euro to stash

Result:
al\Love
love\Clark\smith
Miller\Gomes\Clark\brown
Harden\Foye\Brewer
Foye\Watson\Beabouis

This team is built to run the 1/2 court game and grind it out with al. Plus MN still has the productive
expirings of miller, gomes, & smith to work with as midseason trade fodder. Miller can still play
his offense facilitator role he played last year, and harden can start doing this as well. The team
also has a ton of flexability in terms of lineup since most of these guys can play at least 2 and sometimes three positions.

Plus MN can run the ultra long öctopus arms lineup...

Draft day trade: 6/Gomes/Telfair/Madsen for Augustin/Bell

Bobcats: Larry Brown gets his guy at 6 (Curry) and they also get more depth.

Felton/Telfair/Singletary
Curry(6)/Henderson(13)
Wallace/Gomes
Diaw/VladRad/Madsen
Okafor/Diop/Ajinca/Mohammed

Other trade(s): Cardinal for Darko

Draft: 18- Clark 28- Beaubois 45- Gibson 47- Meeks

FA- resign Williams to a small 1-2 year deal.

Augustin/Brown/Beaubois
Bell/Foye/Meeks
Miller/Brewer
Love/Clark/Gibson/Smith
Jefferson/Darko/Williams

Bell brings the two things needed for this team: defense and 3pt shooting. Augustin doesn't bring much defense but he sure brings the shooting. The Darko for Cardinal trade is simply to get another center on the roster for when Al is out. I doubt he would stick around after this season. I also had a Deng for Miller trade but I took that out to make it more realistic for Rev.

How much money do you guys think Carney is going to get this offseason, and are the Wolves going to make a run at him at all?

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
