Wolves trying to move up to #2...for Thabeet?

I don't buy it for a second. We might take Thabeet at #6 but I don't see us moving up for him.

Not to blow you out of the water, but it is a good chance.

Interesting. I wonder what kind of compensation we'd give up for such a move and how the fan base would react when we passed on Rubio.

I guess Kahn really has no ties to Love/Jefferson, unlike the previous FO, so if he doesn't think they can be a championship level frontcourt then he'd have to consider Thabeet....hmmmm....

Well, .... I do see Thabeet fitting a need, but would be shocked to see us dump resources to move and get him at #2. Makes me think this is a typical "pre-draft" smoke-screen.

On the flip-side, I could live with it if they were "still" able to get one of these young PG's like Flynn, Jennings, etc. as well.

Bottom-line: No matter how you slice it, drafting Thabeet (defensive center) & Flynn (true PG) would be a very successful draft. Two need positions filled with two quality players.

Love/#6 to Memphis
Conley/#2 to MN

Why? Each gets a big 3
OJ, Love, and Gasol
Conley, Jefferson, and Thabeet

Yuck...huge gamble. I hate it but I see it happening.

Interesting that Conley had a better EFG, FT/FG, 3pt%, ppr, Ast-r, tO-r, Reb-r, and PER than Mayo.

wow, I did not know that.

My concern is that I think Love has more value than that. Is there any other asset we can put in besides love?

I want Thabeet but at number 2 I would want Rubio more. If we moved up to number 4 to take Thabeet or something I could deal with that but giving up all that to move up to number 2? Eh.

Thats the problem after Jefferson and Love the talent level drops off. Maybe Foye+the Utah pick. That doesn't seem like enough though.

So I am guessing Thabeet is one of the two guys you heard the Wolves wanted to move up for? I was hoping Rubio was one of them but if they want to move up to #2 for Thabeet I guess that idea is out.

Would Memphis really trade the #2 (thus no Rubio) and Conley? I know there was some talk about moving Mayo to PG but Conley played pretty well for them down the stretch.

I would think the deal to move up would include other picks (#18 and/or Utah) and us taking a bad contract back (Mr. Jaric maybe?), but Kahn could be thinking about a total house cleaning and if he needs a top five pick (Love or Thabeet) coming off the bench when he's got Telfair starting at the point.

For some Memphis perspective I'd visit this message board, seems a bit more lively than their RealGM one.

so we are trying to be a more defensive team
i like it Thabeet,Brewer i can see getting major minutes this year

as long as we dont have to give up the #18 or #28 we shoulld be fine ,we can pick up Manyor,Mills,Lawson orTeague with the #18

I highly doubt the FO would entertain love or jefferson in any deal at this point.

Moving up for thabeet means miller is probably part of the deal. I'd like Harden in a moveup more than thabeet but w\e

Maybe MEM is part of the WAS pick sweepstakes? They could probably pickup hill + Evans

MEM gets: James, 5, 6
MEM Gives, 2

WAS Gets, Miller, tpe that gets them well under lux, #5, (maybe a late pick from mem)
WAS Gives, Thomas, james, opec 5

MN Gets: Thomas, #2
MN Gives: Miller

MN Grabs a pg with the 18 or package up to move up a bit with the 28. Just assume lawson?

I like Thabeet a lot, but it sounds like a trade just to fill a need.

Well, if we draft Thabeet, Pekovic and/or Love have to part of a deal at some point unless we just don't think Pek is coming over because he isn't coming over (and we aren't paying him what it would take to get him here) to be the fourth big in our rotation.

I would find this to be the worst case scenario for draft boards that could reasonably happen. I don't like Thabeet at all and wouldn't take him at 6, and Flynn is like 7-8th on my PG list. Ugh, that would be brutal.

I would not get too cozy with the idea that we will have the 6th or 18th.

If we trade with Memphis for #2 then Rubio will have to be our pick.

If we want Thabeet then I'm confident that trading with Sacramento or even Washington will be enough.

#1 Griffin
#2 Rubio
#3 Harden
#4 PG or Thabeet
#5 Hill or Thabeet
Maybe we don't even need to trade up if we want Thabeet

Yes!

If true it looks like what Kahn said about Thabeet was merely a smokescreen.

Yeah my uncle has been a season ticket holder of some pretty ridiculously priced seats since the wolves came into existence and he said that during some private dinner thing with twolves brass, they said they are very interested and active in trying to get up in position to get rubio or thabeet. He said those are the only two guys they would try and move up for. So who knows. He said they love rubio as a pure point guard who is more concerned with getting others open than his own stats and thabeet as a defensive presence downlow to defend the rim. He definitely made it sound like thabeet was more coveted to them than rubio though.
