http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... osh_smith/6 mil trade kicker hurts a lot. He would be absolutely perfect for our team if Glen Taylor was willing to pay out the cash. This is the kind of player I would want to use our cap space on.

Another PF, except with a bad attitude? Not at the top of my list.

OK, so I actually just looked at Josh Smith's contract (probably should have done that before endorsing a trade for him)...$6 mil a year on top of that? Oh god...maybe not.

His trade kicker would mean an additional 1.5 million per year on his contract which isn't the end of the world.
But, we do not need him since he is a PF and we are very set at PF.

I am guessing Love would need to be in the package to get him. I don't see them wanting the 6th. Yes, they might need a PG if Bibby leaves, but they are finally a playoff team and they shouldn't ruin that by playing a rookie PG big minutes.

oh...as in 6 mil split over 4 years, not 6 mil a year, I get it. He really can't play SF?

He can play sf and pf but is better suited at pf (like Kirilenko).

Then the question is - do we think we will be able to get a player that is a better fit at a cheaper price? I don't know if we will be able to, it kind of sounds like a Josh Smith fire sale to me. Mike Miller + Utah future 1st for Josh Smith, then 18 + 28 for Pacers 13th pick (Gerald Henderson) and then whatever stupid trade up the front office has in mind for Thabeet or Rubio...we could really re-invent ourselves as an athletic defense-oriented team.

I get the feeling Kahn would be one of the many GM's unwilling to pay the extra 6 mil, regardless of what he has said in the past.
Smith dropped down in almost every stat this season, with a big dip in blocks. So paying the extra money for him now seems a bit of a stretch.
