What i think will happen on draft night

Post#1 » by Sebzor » Fri Jun 19, 2009 4:08 pm

1) trade: MIN-CLE
M. Miller/B. Cardinal/47th pick
-for: B. Wallace/30th pick

2) draft itself:
6th: T. Evans
18th: A. Daye
28th: T. Hansbrough
30th: D. Collison
45th: J. Jerebko (overseas)

We could do WAAAY better than that for Miller. I'd be pretty pissed about that trade. And the brutal draft.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Jerebko go much closer to the first round. He should be drafted before MN's second round picks. Bad Miller trade, sorry.

I think I will be dissapointed or talking myself out of dissapointment by the end of the night...

That trade with Cleveland is far and away one of the most dreadful trade proposals I have ever seen.

So Cleveland gets 2 expirings, a pick, along with the best player in the deal for a player far past his prime, who could only play defense in his prime, who also has a horrendous contract.

I think I'd pass....

Well, Wallace's contract does have value if he really does plan on retiring because that salary would be wiped away this year and opposed to an expiring contract which doesn't come off until next season; however, you'd think it would have more value to a team near the luxury tax (I'm not sure if that money is immediately available to sign free agents if he retires).

That said, this is an horrible deal. Miller might get traded draft night but I'd either expect us to get a mid first round pick or a decent player.

In that case, maybe Wallace could be flipped to Washington for the #5.

Lets not forget Ben Wallace is likely retiring. And if not, has one more season left. He is NOTHING of his former self.

I love that draft, but I just don't think we'd be willing to pay all those 1st rounders. I'd trade Miller/Cardinal for Big Ben/Collison though if nothing else cropped up. Big Ben isn't what he was, but he'd still be our best post defender by a mile and we'd save a lot of money too. Of course, there's no guarantee Collison would be available at 30.

Plan A: The Wolves will move up to nab the Rube... :D
- #6/#28/Foye/Maddog to Memphis
- #2/Buckner/Haddadi to MN
Then, we will package player/#18 as needed to acquire Daye. Foye will become a classic 6th man behind Mayo and Conley.

Plan B: If Sac gets the Rube, then the Wolves will draft Evans at #6. Package #18/#28 for Daye. :P

The Rube or Evans will workout fine. I think Daye is our mid-round guy as we're seeking length & athleticism. Clark will go too high for us to go after. I give the edge to us getting Rubio due the fact we a little more bells and whistles to send Memphis versus Sac.

Only thing that scares me with Plan A is that people will think RubeChat is a legit forum for discussing basketball.

Actually I kind of like the Wallace trade since if he came here he would probably accept a buyout (maybe 6 or 7 million) since I think if he were to retire which he is seriously considering, unless it's for medical reasons he would forfeit all his money anyway; thus this way he still gets some money. Also, this gives him the option of pulling a PJ Brown and signing somewhere midseason if he would like to.

So a hypothetical offseason that I like.
Min/Cle/Mil
Min Out: Miller, Cardinal, Madsen, Telfair, Smith In: #10, Ben Wallace, Ridnour
Why? We get a high pick in #10, a backup PG in Ridnour, and the buyout of Wallace.
Cle Out: Wallace, Pavlovic, #30 In: Madsen, Cardinal, Miller, Allen, Elson, C. Smith
Why? Miller would be a great fit next to Lebron, also Craig Smith could play some valuable minutes at PF for them, and Elson and Allen would provide some adequate big man depth.
Mil Out: Allen, Elson, #10, Ridnour In: Telfair, Pavlovic (waived, 1.5 guaranteed only), #30
Why? They cut 5.5 million off of their salary cap immediately (7.5 million if you include #10 pick's salary), they also get a backup PG in Telfair and they would have enough money to keep Sessions and CV without going into the luxury tax.

Then we make the Rubio trade (I included a little different take on it since I don't think Love for #2 is enough from us)
Min Out: Foye, Love In: #2, #27, LAL 2010 1st, Buckner
Why? Get Rubio
Mem Out: #2, Buckner, #27, LAL 2010 1st In: Love, #9, Humphries
Why? Get Love who is exactly what they need and they still get a lottery pick.
Tor Out: Humphries, #9 In: Foye
Why? The trade has been discussed (with different fillers), but I think this would really help Toronto

We buyout Ben Wallace for somewhere around 6 or 7 million for the reasons discussed (to give us cap room, for Ben to get some money and have the option of returning midseason anywhere he wants to)

Then
MN Out: TPE (from cap space because of Wallace buyout) In: Amir, Kwame, #15, 3million cash
why? we get a talented young player in Amir, and a draft pick
Det Out: Amir, Kwame, #15, 3 million cash In: TPE
Why? They create an additional 8 million or so in cap room to give them more flexibility.

Finally (I couldn't think of a better trade but one might be out there)
MN Out: Buckner, B. Brown In: Claxton, R. Morris, #19
Why? we get another pick
Atl Out:Claxton, Morris, #19 In: Buckner, B. Brown
Why? It helps keep them out of the luxury tax by waiving Buckner's salary. They are contemplating moving Smith to be able to have the money to bring back Williams and Bibby; this way they give up 2 players they don't need and a pick to be able to have an additional 5 million to give those guys (once Buckner gets waived)

We draft
#2 Rubio, #6 Hill #10 Henderson #15 Clark #18 Mullens #19 Casspi #27 Beaubois #28 Summers #45 Norel #47 Kravtsov

Our lineup with minutes
Rubio (36)/Ridnour (12)/Claxton (bench)
Brewer (28)/Henderson (20)/veteran minimum SG (maybe Quinton Ross) (spot minutes when needed)
Gomes (28)/Clark (20)/Summers (D-League half the year, 8-12 minutes when with team)
Hill (30)/Amir (18)/Summers
Jefferson (36)/Kwame (12)/Mullens (D-league half the year at least, other half with team and given 12 minutes)/R. Morris (bench)
-we have overseas assets of casspi, beaubois, norel, kravtsov, pekovic, and mavrokefalidis (sp?); plus a good chance for 3 1sts next year (ours, Utah, LAL)
-We would also have a ton of 2010 cap space to work with, and a 2010 offseason roster of
Rubio
Brewer/Henderson
Gomes?/Clark/Summers
Hill/Summers
Jefferson/Mullens
(plus our picks, overseas guys and free agents)

Here's my guess:

1. Love to Memphis for #2
2. 18, 28, Telfair to Milwaukee for #10 + Ridnour

Draft
#2 - Thabeet
#6 - Evans
#10 - Clark

Thabeet-Jefferson
Jefferson-Smith
Clark-Gomes-Brewer
Foye-Miller-Brewer
Evans-Ridnour

OK Mr. Smarty Pants. You gonna back that up with a prediction?

(I realize Love can't be traded to MEM on draft night so that deal would be a couple days later - same diff. to me)

I'm going to join in. If a deal happens with Min I see it being:

#2
#27 or #35

for

Love
#18 or #28

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
