Who Do Wolves Draft @ 5 & 6

Post#1 » by Sprite Zoner » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:50 am

Strongly need a PG/SG

My guesses:

Tyreke Evans
Stephen Curry

What do you think?

I would think Harden and Evans. a PG and a SG.

to be honest I expect Kahn to make more trades on the draft night, so not sure who we are going to keep after the draft.

Not sure Harden will be available then.

I hope they take Evans and curry because it gives the knicks a shot at harden . they also compliment each other very nicely and you could be looking at the best backcourt in the nba 3 years from now.

Lots of possibilities....

Evans/Derozan... then take Lawson or Maynor #18?

Flynn/Harden

Evans/Harden

Flynn/Derozan

Hell, and I forgot about Curry.

Evans/Curry?

------------------------

I pray to GOD that Rev was not foreshadowing a #5 and #6 for Thabeet deal in which case, like he said, we would have a gaping hole at the PG position.

Let's hope we move for RUBIO, but keep the #6.

Rubio will SELL tickets, generate ENTHUSIASM, make players want to come play here, become a face of the franchise (TV $), SELL jerseys

Thabeet will block shots. He's not selling jerseys, not becoming a face of the franchise, not going to make players want to come here

With Kahn being a $ man, I can't see how he has Thabeet over Rubio

I don't see how you guys could stand at 5 & 6. This draft isn't deep enough to make that trade without having a way to move into 2, 3 or 4 and get either Rubio, Harden or Thabeet. Personally I would think Harden is your target by packaging the 5 and a player and then take one of the PGs with the 6. Correct me if I'm wrong but leaving Love and Jefferson as your front court is somewhat problematic as neither is a true center. I would think Thabeet and Harden or Rubio would be a nice draft but I'm not sure how that could happen with the 5 & 6 since the drop off appears to be so steep. Will Thabeet slide out of the top 4? Is there some magic trick that would allow you to trade Love, all four of your first rounders and other pieces to get Rubio, Harden AND Thabeet? That would be sweet.

That better be a powerful god you are praying to if you want Harden to drop for the Knicks.

Thabeet could possibly fall to you guys at #5 if a team moves up to take Rubio at #2. Griffin/Rubio/if OKC takes Harden/Sac not going to take Thabeet, probably PG/Min takes Thabeet, Min then takes Evans/Curry

I agree, I think Kahn is using Thabeet as a smokescreen. I wouldnt be at all surprised if Rev knew some of this information and was just not trying to let the cat out of the bag so he threw us a Thabeet curve ball. At least I hope thats what happened

It is very likely that the #5 and #6 will be moved for Rubio at #2.

Kahn seems like a pretty sharp cat, I highly doubt he packages 5 & 6 for #2. Love for #2 maybe, but seriously there are some very good players available 2-6 he simply isn't dumb enough to take that sort of risk.

We have so many bigs right now and so little backcourt. If we trade up it will be For Rubio not Thabeet.

Yeah with the glut of bigs on the TWolves roster and NO backcourt to speak of you would think Minny is going to revamp the PG and SG spots via 5 and 6....hope Rubio slips...if not take Evans and Curry and be happy.

If it were up to me, unless we can move up to get Ricky Rubio without losing both our top ten picks, I would just keep the five and six picks and draft our back court. My ideal draft would be take Tyreke Evans and Stephen Curry with our two first picks. I feel like they are a perfect match in the back court. Evans is a beast, he can get to the rim and can overpower a lot of guards in this League. People question his jumper, but I feel like that can get better with time. I feel like he has the tools to be an elite defender in this League as well. Curry, on the other hand, is a lights out shooter and a very high basketball IQ player. I can see him running the point, he is a great passer and can run the show. At 18, I would like to see someone like James Johnson or Terrence Williams. At 28, I could see someone like Wayne Ellington, another great shooter off the bench.

Foye + Miller + #6 + taking on salary is a RIDICULOUS amount to pay for the #2 pick. Not going to happen in my opinion.

I think the same.
You guys are probably better off picking Evans and one of Curry/Harden/Flynn

These are the most common scenarios (both of which I don't mind)
rubio\thabeet or Harden\evans\thabeet or Harden\curry
or
thabeet\harden\rubio\evans\curry

It's also possible, but not improbable that SAC passes on Rubio, or that both thabeet & rubio are available @ 5 & 6. People seem to forget that the reason teams trade up is to ensure who they want is available. Teams who trade down are looking for some incentive to do so, but never in a draft has there been a dramatic difference in trade up\down scenarios.

If a trade for 2 happens it will be #6(hill) + small incentive, nothing even close to 5 & 6. Don't forget how cheap memphis is saving 1m a year on rookie scale contract for the player they actually need in hill far outweighs the impossible dream of 5 & 6 or drafting a guy who doesn't want to be there.

Same thing with a trade to OKC, if they want Thabeet or Harden they should be available @5 and as a MN fan I'm more than happy to take either guy that falls.

If I'm SAC or MN I take Evans if available.

Essentially there is no bad draft stay put scenario as far as I can see. MN should end up with one of Evans\Rubio\Thabeet and curry.
