Possible trades to round out roster

Post#1 » by skorff26 » Sat Jun 27, 2009 8:21 pm

with Boston
Songalia, 2010 Houston 2nd for Pruitt, Scalabrine
Why MN? get out of Songalia's extra year
Why Boston? they won't have cap space for 2010 (unless PP opts out), this way they pick up a more productive player in case they don't resign Powe or Davis; or if KG gets hurt again. Songalia provides them with insurance in the front court.

with New Jersey
C. Smith, Madsen for S. Williams, Hassell, future GS 1st
Why MN? we don't have room for Smith, so we get a future 1st for him
Why NJ? they could use Smith, even more with Anderson being traded

with Orlando
telfair for Redick
Why MN? we don't really need Telfair, so we move his 2010 salary, and Redick would get some minutes
Why Orl? they need a backup PG and don't need Redick

Our final roster this year
Flynn/Pruitt/Brown (maybe bring back Ollie and buyout Brown)
Brewer/Ellington/Redick
Gomes/Brewer/Hassell/Cardinal
Jefferson/Love/S. Williams
Thomas/Jefferson/Pecherov/Scalabrine

We do not want to round out the roster. Songalia cannot be moved for a couple months.

I think that MIN won't mind rounding out their roster a little to sell tickets this year, but I'm completely committed to only doing those moves if they do no harm in 2010 - and hopefully improve our chances.

Songalia can be traded within the 2-month window, but he must be traded seperately during that time.

I like the NJN deal with the 2011 GSW pick (top 14 protected in 2011, top 11 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013) else 2013 second round pick and 2015 second round pick) but posters believe Sean williams has value, so it might be tough to get that pick.

Reddick for Telfair? I think that works for both.

I'd do the BOS trade too, if for no other reason than to grab $1.4 more cap room in 2010.

Wouldn't trading Smith for Williams be thinning out the roster?

Scalabrine is an expiring so basically the Boston trades knocks Songalia completely off of our books, we may have to add in an additional incentive as well.

True, but we don't have that many minutes for Smith and any minutes that he does get can be given to Williams. A future 1st round draft pick would be more valuable for us than Smith IMO.

I think we are allowed to move him by himself, just as long as we don't combine him with any other players.

I'd unwisely give up plenty to get earl clark, that team is completely devoid of future assets and it seems they are switch to a rebuild mode. I wonder how close a combo if Pek rights, CHA/UTAH pick would get in next years seemingly strong draft. I know fans wouldn't be down for trading their new lotto pick, but I think the value could be close if it was a combo of pek(scoring post big man) + cha pick(decent pick in deeper draft)

No, he can't be traded for two months -- until August 24th

You said it.

But really, I don't see a trade b/t the two teams. Phoenix is short on players to play now. I don't know if trading Clark (a perfect fit for their system) for future assets is in their best interest.

I think you are confused with the 24hr flip rule where you can "flip" a recently traded piece on his own within 24 hours (basically making it a 3 way deal) similar to the San An-Mil-Det trade this year.

nope. He can be traded individually. Check rule #85 on when a player can't be traded:

Larry Coon wrote: For two months after receiving the player in trade or claiming him off waivers, if the player is being traded in combination with other players. However, the team is free to trade the player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap.

Incidentally, I read this to mean we could add the rights to a player, though once we sign him, we couldn't combine them.

Which makes me wonder if we love Wayne Ellington yet?

I understand we wouldn't sell his pick for $3 mil, but would we do a deal like:

Songalia 4,526,000 4,818,000
Ellington 836,300 899,000

Steven Hunter ($3,696,000 expiring)

This deal saves us $1.67 mil in 2009 and $5.717 in raw cap space 2010, and gives us a 900K TPE that may slips us back under the cap, FWIW.

This was nutty nat fans deal on the trade board.

It's simply wishful thinking on my part. I simply think the guy is the perfect 3 spot alongside Al/Love with the ability to play with each of them. I don't think there's anyone comparable in the next draft class.
