The more I think about this deal, the more I like it. Just make it fast, before I get all attached to Wayne Ellington.

FOR DEN, they're contenders and it gives them increased production and helps fill their short roster.

FOR MIN, I understand they wouldn't sell the pick for $3 mil to the Knicks, but this saves them a lot more, in the right places too:

I like it, but other than Brewer we don't have anyone to play SG... if we would have drafted Green or someone in the 2nd to backup Brewer, I'd be more for it.

If we could follow that up by trading telfair to Orlando for Redick then sign me up.

I personally don't think we'll have trouble trading big for small to fill the 2009-10 roster, but winning games this coming season isn't a big priority to me. I want to gear for 2010.

It's not that big of a deal for me either, but I would like to have a young guy getting some minutes at SG behind Brewer. If we could get another SG in a trade then I would be all for it.

Songalia may not be exactly worthless. If Smith is moved, he might be able to help this year and next. He might even be able to play spot minutes at center -- wing span is 7'1", standing reach is 9'.05". Not terrible.

He would be alright if he was making 40% of what he was making now, but he needs to go for an expiring to give us some more cap room next year.

This is a tough call. A lot people thought Ellington had mid first round value and Wolves don't have many options at SG. I don't know how much that 5.72 million helps us in 2010, is it going to be a major factor in the type of player we can get? I don't know.

I think maybe a follow-up trade with OKC of Atkins/Weaver for C. Smith/Madsen

-we get our backup SG in Weaver (who I'm personally a big fan of) and a nice trading chip in Atkins (partially guaranteed contract)
-OKC doesn't need Weaver since they got Harden, also OKC could use Smith as well.


-maybe we could then ship Atkins to Detroit for Kwame + either Summers or Daye (or for some other SF),
or maybe Atkins for Alexander and Elson in Milwaukee (to save them some more money)
or something like that to help someone save some cash and get us a young backup SF

I dont believe Ellington is our future SG. I think he can be a very good role player, like gomes, but depending on how Kahn views Ellington vs. cap space...I can see Kahn doing this deal. Kahn seems obsessed with finding "star" players and a "dynamic scoring wing." If he felt clearing Songaila's contract would help him sign one in FA or use the cap space to trade for one. He would get it done.

Its a tough call for me, I wanted Ellington chosen at #18. We need SG and we are in a position to let Wayne develop and see what happens. But if DEN said this is a one time offer, I would find it very dificult to turn down this deal.

Agreed on both counts...lets see what they can do first...Songaila had some value, if I remember correctly, a few years ago so maybe a change of scenery does something for him and we can trade him to a playoff contender for an expiring close to the deadline...I realize that WAS fans think he is garbage, for the most part, but I don't think it is a good idea to move Ellington...
