Knicks don't have knack to land Rubio
June 28, 2009

Ricky Rubio was reportedly in Minnesota this weekend to meet with Wolves GM David Kahn, whose decision to draft the Spanish guard is looking better by the minute.

Mitch Lawrence in Sunday's Daily News reported that the Wolves turned down a deal with the Houston Rockets that would have resulted in Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier headed to Minnesota for Rubio.

If the Wolves are receiving those types of offers—Brooks and Battier were starters on a playoff team - do the Knicks really have much of a chance to get Rubio? Donnie Walsh is offering Wilson Chandler but that's not going to get it down. Walsh originally offered Chandler to Washington to get the fifth pick last week.

Rubio's agent, Dan Fegan, is an experienced negotiator who will likely get Rubio to a bigger market. Rubio's father said on Friday that his son could remain in Europe. One report yesterday quoted a "consultant for Rubio's (European-based) agency" as taking credit for suggesting to Rubio's parents that the Knicks is the best team for the 19-year-old point guard.

Turns out that the consultant is none other than Tim Shea, a former Knicks European scout, who is responsible for one of the most infamous first round picks in club history. What the report conveniently failed to mention is that Shea's claim to fame is that he is suggested that the Knicks draft Frederic Weis 10 years ago. Under Shea's watch in New York, the Knicks had two Euros: Weis and the incomparable Mirsad Turkcan.

Now Shea is pushing Rubio? Suddenly, I'm having second thoughts about the kid.

thats a good turning down by Kahn, Battier and Brooks for Rubio sux

and yes, i agree, knicks got no chance, just leave the wolves alone!

Aaron Brooks isn't a scrub; along with Battier I think that was a nice deal

If they rejected that deal, the Knicks are not getting Rubio.

Finally an article that isn't NY bias. Rubio isn't getting traded, and if he would he wouldn't go to NY.

I actually wouldnt have minded that deal...if we didnt already have Flynn. Not saying I would have accepted it, but I wouldnt revolt either if it had happened.

I also dont think it is unreasonable that NY gets Rubio, its just that as we have said it wouldnt be a straight NYK and MIN trade. I am sure there are a number of teams that might like Lee or Robinson...or maybe even Chandler.

Brooks is a solid player but not what we need right now

Same here, Battier is going to be too old by the time we're good and Brooks plays as much defense as Foye.

Lee and Chandler is a better deal than that.

I'd do Lee and Chandler for Cardinal and Maddog.

No way you give up Maddog for that.

He's the best bench cheerleader in the NBA.

Lee won't start on our team for the millionth damn time. Get it through your dumb heads Knick fans. At least with this trade we'd get 2 starters until Flynn takes over.

Disgruntl3d, you are wasting your time arguing with Knicks posters they think the Wolves will just give Rubio away to the Knicks they are still pissed from this past draft. I was debating with a Knicks poster why would the Wolves want Lee when they have Al and Love plus Lee is a FA.

Larry Coon wrote: 92. What is tampering?
Tampering is when a player or team directly or indirectly entices, induces or persuades anybody (player, general manager, etc.) who is under contract with another team to negotiate for their services. The NBA takes tampering very seriously and may impose stiff penalties if it is discovered, however the league will not investigate unless another team files tampering charges.

How "former" is this?

hahah, I know. It's fun to watch them squirm and come up with some unbiased answer. Personally I think all of their offers are crap. and so does Kahn

He worked for two NBA teams after the Knicks, and is a few years removed from working with the Bobcats. So very former.

Kahn should have done the deal with the Rockets. You would have gotten on of the best players on D with Battier and expolsive player with Brooks. Then you could have moved Telfair or Gomes along with some other players to get your self a true center.God you could have had a team with Jefferson,Love,Flynn,Ellington,Brooks,Battier,Gomes and a player or two we sign in the offseason and we would have been a playoff team this year and be competing for our divison title.Plus Kahn has said he doesn't want and old team and everyone of these players are 30 years old or younger with the oldest being Battier.
