Carney vs. Brewer who is better? Who do you Keep?

I am having trouble deciding who is better. Do we resign Carney and see who is better? Can they play together at the 2 & 3? Or do we just ride with Brewer?

Brewer. Just a real good defender and his offensive game started to blossom beyond being a good slasher into becoming a much better shooter. His ceiling seems much higher right now. I love Carney though, I hope we can hang on to him too.

Carney is a streaky 3-point shooter without a mid-game or a strong drive to the basket, but he is very strong on steals/outlet pass breaks. To date he is a much better offensive player than anything Brewer has shown. Brewer hasn't even shown streaky success at any aspect of his offensive game yet.

Brewer is a more consistently active defender, without knowing defensive assignments its sometimes a little tough to fairly judge players on this side of the ball, but I think most people would say he is the better of the two. But not by a lot.

This coming season Carney will probably still be the better player, but obviously the hope is that Brewer will eventually become the better of the two. Time will tell.

Brewer hasn't had near enough time to develop yet. He had one season with 7 games in another I think it was. He showed signs of improvement last season before injury. Carney had a good month where he shot very well from 3 but after that was pretty bad until like april. He can dunk, and get a few steals every once in awhile and hit a corner 3 but he can't dribble, can't make a mid-range jumper, is an average defender and pry won't even be back next year with all the players we have anyway...actually idk lol we have no one at the 2 outside of ellington.

I'll go with Brewer as well.

Who is better? Brewer.
Who to keep? Brewer. Not to say that Bassy shouldn't be waived to resign Carney..

Brewer - hands down. People forget that he's 6-9 and has guard type quickness / defending ability. Carney is a solid player too. If we had a roster spot, I'd like to see him back, but we don't.

Carney's better right now but if Brewer can learn to shoot at an acceptable clip, he'll pass him.

I'd be happy if he could just dribble full speed and keep control of the ball

Brewer is a better basketball player ...always has been - always will be. Not a sesious topic IMO... Gosh forbid a rookie doesn't meet or exceed the expectations of a bunch of monkeys on the chat boards. Heck, he's not even had a chance to develop yet and he's still better than Carney.

Carney's careers is nearly over IMO. He will be fortunate to be a 8-10 player on a roster, and that would be fine with me if it's the Wolves ... just stop trying compare him with Brewer.

What exactly makes Brewer so far above Carney at this point?

I agree with Worm Guts.

Right now Carney is a bit better than Brewer. Brewer really hasn't shown any signs of being an NBA starter yet - Carney has (in instances).

s
Brewer is already a better NBA 3-pt shooter ...
Brewer is bigger and faster ...
Carney's had 3 years to show he belongs in the NBA ... proved he belongs 8-10 reserve on a poor team.
Brewer has a much higher BB IQ ...
Brewer is a far better defender ...
Brewer is a far better team chemistry guy ...
and so on...
and so on...
lets not forget he's just getting rolling with his career ...

again ... how about a real topic. Saying Carney is superior to Brewer is concerning.

I would disagree with Brewer being a better 3pt shooter. Carney made about 1 3pter/game whereas Brewer made .5/game. Brewer shot a better percentage from beyond the arc but that's from a 5/12 3ptFG% sample. While Carney's sampling is a 79/226 3ptFG%. HUGE difference.

Carney is also a better athlete. I'd also disagree with Brewer being quicker. Taller, yes. Not sure about quicker.

Also, I said right now.

Brewer is not a better 3 point shooter, that's ridiculous, and he's not faster. Carney's got a higher PER, and the advanced stats are pretty close if you look at last year.

Both these guys have shown that they have a lot of limitations - and a couple of things they do pretty well. But Brewer is better now and has more of a chance to develop.

However, Brewer needs to start to show that development. Form what I saw, his D is good. His handle and shot are poor to not good. His decision making and awareness are in question. This year will be critical for him - hopefully he can come back from the knee injury. If he can't improve in these areas, he may go down as the bust of the top 10 picks of the 2007 draft. I think the team has a $4million option to decide on him next summer.

I like Carney, and I think he helps fill the void at SG. Keep both if we can, and try to find a way to consolidate some of the PF's we have.
