I know during the draft there was rumors that MIN and SAC had a trade in place for Flynn +18th for Evans if the right player was there. It was then said that the player in question was James Johnson. I am wondering if we can still make that trade happen.
Trade 1:
MIN gives/CHI gets:
Etan Thomas
MIN gets/CHI gives:
Kirk Hinrich
Trade 2:
MIN gives:
Jonny Flynn
Bobby Brown
MIN gets:
Tyreke Evans
SAC gives:
Tyreke Evans
SAC gets:
Jonny Flynn
James Johnson
CHI gives:
James Johnson
CHI gets:
Bobby Brown
The NET result:
MIN
+Tyreke Evans
+Kirk Hinrich
-Jonny Flynn
-Bobby Brown
-Etan Thomas
CHI
+Etan Thomas
+Bobby Brown
-Kirk Hinrich
-James Johnson
SAC
+Jonny Flynn
+James Johnson
-Tyreke Evans

This jerome johnson guy seems to good to pass up. Maybe we just keep him and Flynn?

Sneaky, sneaky....
Whether its James or Jerome, Chicago probably easily passes on this deal, especially now that Gordon is gone.

Chicago immediately hangs up the phone. This makes absolutely no sense for them.

Yeah, I caught my mistake right away. You really think CHI passes easily? I would have thought moving Hinrich for an expiring big man would have been an attractive option.

Ok even if they would agree to Hinrich for Thomas why would they trade Johnson for Brown? While I don't doubt Chi wants Hinrich off the books I would think they would like some sort of value in return. There were talks of Mike Miller or Marcus Camby before. Thomas isn't even half the player those other two are.

my thought is that giving an expiring big man to CHI is exactly what they want. The two years of Hinrich is a steep price, therefore they would need to throw more in. The only reason I did these as two separate trades was because of Thomas' trade restriction. The scenario would only work with both trades. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, look at the NET result when evaluating the trade. I think Thomas > Hinrich from a contract point of view so they add in Johnson for Brown to make it better for the wolves.

Ellington + Thomas for Hinrich is more realistic to me --

Does Hinrich make any sense on this team? Would he be a better trade asset when he is an expiring?
In the tradition of overvaluation of the local team's draft pick, I would like to see what Wayne can show on the court for an all around game before he gets traded away.

I don't like it for MIN or CHI. The value just isn't the for Chicago and for us, I have never liked Tyreke Evans as he seems like a ball-dominant off-guard who is pimped as "athletic" without really being very athletic and doesn't really have much of a jump shot (I know he's very long/strong and has great handles, but those are my concerns with him). Plus I'd rather roll with Flynn than and use our cap space on a FA or in a trade next summer rather than have Kirk Hinrich who has basically hit his ceiling and his on a big contract.
Yep, I'd rather have Flynn and cap space than Evans and Hinrich.

I tend to feel that way all the time now after getting burned for Roy...I can't believe Portland turned Sebastian Telfair into Brandon Roy on draft night.

No, he makes no sense at all. I wouldn't do the trade, I'm just saying that's about where I would place Hinrich's value.
Thomas makes a lot more sense for this team than Hinrich.
I don't think we will see a J-Flynn trade, especially with Sacremento. If we were if would have happened draft night. And quite frankly, I couldn't be happier about the Flynn era. I'm setting my expectations high --- I think he'll win the rookie of the year and I think Ellington might finish in the top 5 -- after Flynn, Griffin, Harden, and Blair.

whoah...that's a high bar, especially for Ellington. I guess the opportunity should be their for both of them looking at our positional needs and our roster, but I think for Ellington it still depends on how much 2 Brewer plays this year and how much he has improved/how ready he is to play as well as who our new coach is and what his philosophy is with developing rookies.
I don't see Flynn beating Griffin for ROY, but of course I hope you are right about both Flynn and Ellington.

It should be, but they want to believe that mediocre PG's in the league get $9 mil deals. Worse, their inaction (or greed last trade deadline) caused them to get nothing from Ben Gordon, since with that big salary, they couldn't S&T him and still stay under the lux.
To be fair, the $9 mil in 2010 cap space is probably more valuable to MIN than Hinrich, and while the expiring > Hinrich to CHI, they may feel their first round exit is encouraging enough to place more value on Kirk than other teams might.

since he signed his RFA tender, a team trading for gordon would not have bird rights on him, which made him a rent-a-player and severely killed his trade value.
wolves have no interest in hinrich
bulls will not move their 1st round pick just to move hinrich]
kings have shown no interest in moving evans, although there was alot of draft speculation.
props for the simultaneous trades to get around the 60-day retrade rule,
but I don't think any of the 3 teams does this.
