[Big Al Jefferson Update]

Post#1 » by Ashwinz. » Sat Jul 18, 2009 8:53 am

Quoted from Rick Kamla's Twitter:

"NBATVRick David Kahn told me today that Al Jefferson will resume basketball related activities by August 21 and expects him to play opening night."

David Khan also mentioned something very similar during the Third Quarter of the Denver Summer League Game.

WIN! I knew it was going better then expected, but wasn't so sure that it was this fast!

David Khan is a very welcome surprise in not hesitating releasing pertinent information and keeping the Timberwolves relevant.

I'm taking it for what its worth, and for me--its worth a lot :)

Great news! I think he's smart enough not to risk it if it's not ok.

Agreed. I see no reason to speed this up, and I hope they do as well.

Jefferson will not be ready ... Brewer is still not fully recovered and he was a ways ahead of Al. Big Al may be able to play, but not ready to play. Big difference. There's no point to push him for the opener...

I have been expecting him back around opening night since they announced he had surgery. ACL injuries are not what they used to be thanks to advances in medical science. Now he wont be back to where he was for some time after that but he will be able to play. It doesn't take athletes 18 months to play again after a injury like this anymore. Because he missed so much time it will take him a significant amount of time to get back to that elite level of play. People shouldn't freak out if he's not getting 20 and 10 in the first month of his return.

Yeah, ACL isn't quite as bad as microfracture. Microfracture would have had him out for ages. It'll be an 8-9 month recovery period for him? That seems fairly regular these days.

You know I didn't even notice the jersey until now. That's too funny. Only because both them two were accused of rape. Irony to go around.

From Chris Mannix's twitter:

ChrisMannixSI Word out of Minnesota is that Al Jefferson is down to 270 pounds and is on schedule to be ready for training camp

He probably shot up quite a bit with all the inactivity after surgery. You aren't doing a lot of hoping around then.
