Kevin Martin?

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... de_martin/Kevin Martin is entering the third season of a five-year contract worth about $53 million.
The possibility of Sacramento trading Martin appears to be greater than ever, especially after the team's 17-win season and questions over his toughness after a lingering ankle injury.
"You definitely want (the Kings' rebuilding) to speed up," Martin told the Sacramento Bee. "You definitely don't want to be scoring 25 (points) for no reason. ... But I've still got time. I definitely want to be part of this. I'm just along for the ride."
Anyway we could land him?

He won't be traded. Petrie is on this ice. He's doesn't have the opportunity to go backwards. He'll have to show improvement this year or he's out. Then who knows.
And any trade w/ Martin would almost certainly include Undrih.

Possibly if they are as bad this year as last at the deadline. I'm not holding my breath, but it would be nice.

One would be a great pick up, the other would be a "are you kidding me? this is what the cap space was used for?" pick up.

I really believe they'd do Flynn, Songalia, and Q for Beno and Martin. Financially makes sense and gives them a young core of Flynn, Evans, Casipi, and Hawes to build around with more cap flexibility.

I'd certainly be open to talks on martin becoming a Wolf... If Brewer (I'm a big Brewer fan) does not come around by mid-season, then I can see a Martin/Gomes combo as a big deal. Of course, we still need to account for both Rubio and Flynn.
Rubbing the Crystal ball, maybe a Flynn/Martin ... Rubio/Martin ... Rubio/Evans ... or Flynn/Evans swap is destined for both teams once Evans proves he's an NBA SG and SAC needs a PG.

You might have ADHD. You should get that checked out.
What would J-Rich accomplish? 5 more wins the next two years? At what cost? All of our cap space next year? Horrible, horrible idea. Just horrible.
Like, a really, really, bad idea.

Yesterday there was a "Kevin Martin-to-MIN" deal on the trade board, and I posted this:
shrink wrote:I don't see many teams willing to offer a lot for Kevin Martin, when its quite possible that a lux that may decline by $10 mil will make KM cheaper for the cash-conscious Maloufs.
The often contentious SAC fans didn't even dispute it.
I like Kevin Martin, and his contract isn't too bad. While he's the #1 player on the Kings, he wouldn't be on any other team, so he's not worth a fortune. I would expect that if we waited until the trade deadline, when the NBA economy and the US economies have hurt the Kings as well as the Malouf's net worth, you could see Kevin Martin dealt for expirings and a cheap pick.

Actually you got ignored because what you said was so ridiculous that it wasn't worth the time to respond to. Think for a minute why a team who's already UNDER the cap would trade their best player (on a good contract) for "expirings and a cheap pick".

LOL! Because owners with financial troubles never deal longterm contracts to increase the sale of their franchise, right?
The funny thing is the SAC posters who want assets AND want to attach Beno Udrih's horrible deal.
Kevin Martin: 9,680,170 10,600,005 11,519,840 12,439,675
Beno Udrih: 6,031,800 6,478,600 6,925,400 7,372,200
Martin + Beno:
2009-10 $15.7 mil
2010-11 $17.1 mil
2011-12 $18.4 mil
2012-13 $19.8 mil
---------------------------
2009-13 $71.0 MILLION DOLLARS
Is this package worth the money? Could it even get expirings?

This is from April, in Sports Business Daily
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/129343 NBA Franchise Notes: Kings Struggling During Harsh Economy
Kings Having "Worst Team At The Worst Time"
ESPN.com's Tim Keown wrote there was a time when Sacramento "was a Kings town, and it didn't matter whether the Kings were winning or losing." From '99-'07, the Kings recorded consecutive 354 sellouts at Arco Arena, but now they are the "worst team in the NBA, with the worst attendance." The Kings are "victims of poor timing," having their "worst team at the worst time." For a franchise in a city "without a huge corporate base, loyal season-ticket holders are the lifeblood." But when those season-ticket holders "lose their jobs or decide it's not worth the expense, the entire enterprise is in jeopardy." The team "needs a new arena to keep up with the revenue streams generated across the league." But in a "cruel twist of timing, a workable plan arose at precisely the wrong time." The "excitement over the concept" of a new arena at the Cal Expo "has been dampened by an economic situation that virtually destroys the possibility of private investment." Meanwhile, in an "extraordinary measure, the Maloof brothers are going door-to-door visiting selected season-ticket holders to convince them to renew their tickets" (ESPN.com, 4/12).

Who said anything about Beno? I'm only talking about your ridiculous "Martin for expirings and a cheap pick comment". So after the Kings deal Martin what are they going to do? Run with a $30mil payroll for a few years? For Christs sake, the Grizzlies aren't even that cheap.
Since you like numbers, let me throw a few out:
The Kings are currently looking at $41mil in salaries for the 2010 season. Add in $4mil for a draft pick: $45mil. If they trade Martin they drop down to $34mil.
Again, your idea is ridiculous and has no basis in reality.

You're making a false argument.
Your team in 2010 won't be $30 mil, or even $34. Do the Kings even have the roster minimum right now, or are magic fairies going to exempt you from that deal? Or perhaps you know players that will play for the Kings for free? And with your list of $34 mil, I again think its magic fairies that will make your roster minimums.
So shall we go with your magic fairy reality? Or perhaps we should at least start by using scenarios that don't ignore the NBA collective Bargaining Agreement, before you start saying things like:

Oh excuse me for forgetting to add a few minimum salary players. In 2010 the Kings will have 10 players under contract; add 4 min salary guys at $470k each.
So let me revise my statement: do you think the Kings will be running a squad out that has a combined salary of UNDER $36mil?
Perhaps in your "magic fairy reality" where teams give away their best players for nothing without any logical reason that will happen. But we don't live in that world shrink.

Ugh. OK, my issue has been this "financial head in the sand" stuff I've been reading from the Kings posters the last couple of days. This isn't wishful thinking here - I'm no fan of Kevin Martin.
I've read trade board posts from SAC posters who think you could get Al Jefferson for him, which was openly mocked by everyone else.
I've read SAC posters who think they can attach Beno Udrih, and still get Love. Again -- ridiciulous.
And now, you're ignoring the possiblity that your team could get sold to a new buyer. What precursors are you immune to?
1. You have one of the poorest owners in the NBA
2. Those owners lost a large portion of their net worth in the world's economic decline.
3. Owners selling teams have cut their salaries (and yes, into the $30's) by moving talented players with big long contracts before.
4. The economic squeeze in the NBA is stronger than ever on ownership.
So why is SAC immune? Why is this ridiculous for the Kings, but it has happened to other owners?
