Does Jonny Flynn have a chance at ROY?

I think Flynn is the only player in the draft who can give Griffin a run for his money. Griffin still has the edge in my mind, but I'm not absolutely convinced that Griffin winning the award is set in stone. The only other point guard on the team is Bobby brown who average 12 minutes per game last year. The rest of the backcourt is comprised of our other rookie Ellington and Brewer who just returned from a season ending injury. I think Flynn easily can lead all rookies in MPG, but it's more than that. During the summer league (which shouldn't be considered a good indicator of success by any means) he has only just reinforced his abilities to change gears in addition to his great passing and scoring skills.
Draft Express considers the base case scenario to be Earl Watson and NBADraft compares him to Damon Stoudamire. Is believing his best case to be DJ Augustin too much? I thought they have a very similar playing style.
Of course this is assuming Rubio stays in Europe, but until it's official that Rubio's playing here, I will just keep this as a legitimate possibility.
Edit: I changed the title just because I didn't want to sound like a homer

To paraphrase Lindsey Graham: unless Blake Griffin has a complete meltdown, he's going to be ROY.

Yeah there is no way Flynn puts out numbers that blow griffin that far in the dust so the only way Flynn beats out Griffin is if he has an incredible year and somehow the team stays healthy and wins a ton more games than last year and a ton more games than the Clippers. Not saying it will happen, but if Al and corey come back healthy and flynn puts them in contention for the 8th seed in the west, even if we don't make the playoffs, that might be enough for him to get it. Otherwise if both teams are similar in standings and the two have similar similar stats for their respective positions, flynn will be **** out of luck.

Griffin has to pull a Timberwolf and blow out his knee in order for that to happen.
Now what I am looking forward to is a Love vs. Flynn Rookie Sophomore game.

The sophomores will destroy them

An Augustin that can finish would be a decent comparison.

He could be second, even could win it only if Blake falls apart

Flynn is also a better defender...

am I the only one who sees a Michael Beasly type of rookie season in Blake Griffin? granted he doesn't play with a superstar as Beasley does with Wade who has to take the most shots but still he's playing with Gordon, Thornton, Davis, Camby and Kaman who all want to have their amount of shots. I don't want to say that Flynn is the front runner to become ROY but I don't really see Griffin automatically becoming the ROY because of his situation. I think it might get really tight at the end. even Brandon Jennings could make it. or Tyreke Evans.

Nope, no way, not unless Blake Griffin gets hurt. Flynn is a great player and all, but Blake Griffin is better. Nonetheless, Flynn is going to turn out a star.

Everyone had Beasley slotted for ROY last year. Flynn has a shot.

Does Flynn have a chance at ROY?
Yes.
He is clearly the Wolves' starting PG and will see 25-30 MPG. He's going to get a lot of touches with the lack of scorers on the team.
I expect 15 PPG | 6 APG | 3 RPG | 1.5 SPG | 43% FG.
Those aren't clear-cut ROY numbers, but those would give him a chance.

Griffin's game translates much better to the pro game than Beasley's.
The presupposition of your post is that Rubio does not come over. I don't necessarily disagree but the resolution of that issue has more to do with Flynn's candidacy than anything else. I agree with the previous poster that a 15/6 rookie campaign would be within reasonable expectations. Of course, it goes without saying, we all hope he blows up at 23/10.

I think it goes pretty much like this.
1. Blake Griffin
2a. Tyreke Evans
2b. James Harden
4a. Johnny Flynn
4b. Stephen Curry
6. Terrence Williams

Flynn is gonna have a great chance, he's the only PG on the roster and the only perimeter player that can score

I know Kahn said we probably aren't done this off season, but with the roster as is, I'd expect 30+ min out of Flynn. Bobby Brown isn't going to do much to keep Flynn off the court.
However, if we assume that Rubio comes over or we sign a cheap vet, then 25-30 min is probably realistic.

With our depleted backcourt, I think something along the lines of 33 MPG isn't out of the question. I mean he's sharing minutes with Bobby Brown after all (who only played 12 MPG last year)

Damon Stoudamire rookie stats: 19 ppg, 4 rpg, 9.3 apg.
DJ Augustin rookie stats: 11.8 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.5 apg

Stoudamire had no one to compete with for shots on that Raptors team. Augustin didn't see the minutes he should have because he played for Larry "benched LeBron, Wade, and Melo in 2004 because playing rookies is for sissies" Brown.

He will have a shot, I see Flynn putting up averages of 16 and 7 or so.
