Who was on the Wolves Mock at 5 and 6?

Post#1 » by Dan's with the Wolves » Sat Jul 25, 2009 9:31 pm

Since Taylor said he was impressed with the way Kahn and company adjusted when Rubio fell to them at 5, they had someone else forecasted at 5 & 6. Who were they? Was it Evans and Flynn?

I would have been pretty happy with a three guard draft/rotation of Flynn, Evans and Ellington.

How does that jive with Rev saying that there was going to be a big hole at PG after the draft?

I am pretty sure they were thinking that either Harden or Evans were going to fall. Either would have been great. However, I will take Rubio.

Ya it had to have been Harden or Evans or Thabeet. I think they would have taken any of those players with Flynn.

I glad we didn't end up in a scenario where Evans went 2 to the Grizzlies and Flynn went 4 to the Kings leaving us with Rubio and Thabeet. Long term who knows, but in the short term can you say patience!

EDIT: Maybe I missed it but did Rev ever explain what he meant by leaving the forum prior to the draft because of insider info and saying there would be a big hole at point on draft night?

i am on my phone so forgive my grammer.

we had multiple trade scenarios prior to the draft. we paid less for the wash deal then we thought so that gave us more flexability. the majority of our pre-draft as well as pre-dc trades involved memphis where we swaped picks as well as players. what i was told was that we wanted one of rubio/thabeet/harden. we were going to use the mem pick to pick from that group. the dc trade and flynn drafting were due to us falling in love with flynn but it was still our goal to get one of rubio/harden/beast. i have yet to get a clear answer on evans but i believe we did not have him as high as fans here.

one of the mem situations that was talked to me the most involved a pick swap with gay/love as other parts of the swap. in that scenario we take beast and are naked at pg. i think once we got the dc pick for cheap we saw too much value and took bpa knowing we still have crazy trade pieces to add parts

Yeah, I'm REALLY thankful Thabeet was gone, and we couldn't take him. I agree with the others on this one. I think Kahn expected Rubio to go 2-4, and would take 2 remaining of Evans, Flynn, and Harden, and Thabeet if a trade wasn't done. I could have seen it going 1-6

Rev, Thanks for the explanation. I'm sure everything was pretty fluid right up to the the #5 pick.

If Sacto would have taken Rubio, who would the wolves have taken at 5 & 6?

Where did you come up with this list?

If accurate, the Wolves must have been elated to get their 2nd and 4th ranked prospects with picks 5 & 6.

I think he made an educated guess. I bet Thabeet was higher in reality.

I believe the Wolves had Rubio rated bery close behind Griffin, and day by day, became more comfortable with Flynn ahead of Evans ... they clearly drafted the two best players available.

I see this:
Griffin ... NBA ready and lowest risk - pure #1 pick..
Rubio ... believed to be the most gifted and most potential, calculated risk.
Harden ... Natural SG - Low risk. rated #3 on Wolves board.
Thabeet ... Defensive center was a genuine Wolves need if there. Time for development.
Flynn ... Dynamic player that presented himself as a legiti NBA player.
Jennings ... no question they had their ey on him - Flynn was just a better salesman.
Evans ... NBA ready - great selection for a team closer to winning - upside?...

The attitude difference between Flynn and Jennings is astronomical. That's HUGE.
