I wonder if another trade is coming?
We save $1 million this year by doing this deal and Atkins deal isn't guaranteed -- so possibly even more.

I thought we could have used Thomas this year. It saves us some money, I guess.

Atkins only has 760k guaranteed for this year. Any chance you waive him?

Only $760,000 of Atkins deal is guaranteed.
So if Atkins is waived the Wolves only took back $4,060,000 in this deal, clearing a total of $3,846,088 off of this years cap.
If Atkins is kept at a mentor of sorts, then wolves clear out $1,126,088 if my math is right.

Damien Wilkins isn't a bad piece, I don't like giving up those 2nd rounders though.

According to Kahn -- "this move better positions us for next summer." I'm not sure what the logic is there. Maybe he means we save $4 million of Taylor money this year so he'll be more willing to open up his wallet next year?

He said the move better position us for the summer, not next summer.

A bit of a headscratcher as Etan would've helped upfront and neither of those two are more than backup/end of the bench players.
I can see it for the savings this year, but still don't see a "why".

Hmm... in that case maybe there is another trade on the horizon.
We could offer Gomes for William in a sign an trade starting at $7.5-$8 million

Atkins is more valuable if the Wolves are looking to package their expirings for a player. Who knows if that's the case.

Are they trying to save money to add a player from 2010 free agency? If they are who would Kahn try to bring in?

If we waive Atkins, Rubio stays in Europe, and our roster stays as is, we'll be ~$6.7 mil under the cap once the season starts. This is more than MLE money, but doubt there is going to be any Free Agents worth this still available once the season starts.
You could be right about GT willing to spend more next year if he saves ~$4 mil this year.

I don't think we will waive Atkins, Kahn wanted a veteran PG anyways can't expect Brown to split minutes with Flynn, plus these guys needed a mentor

ok who's our backup center now? Al and Love arent gonna play 48 minutes........and suddenly our front court depth is left with Pecherov, Songaila, and thats it, and that sucks, maybe we are serious about Siler now?
depth chart
Jefferson
Love/Songaila/Pecherov
Gomes/Brewer/Wilkens
Richardson/Ellington/Wilkens
Flynn/Brown/(Atkins?)
we are very thin up-front

Like we've been saying for most of the moves Kahn has made:
It doesn't look like he's done yet.

but the thing is he doesnt have much strength to occupy the paint, he might has height, but no muscles whatsoever, to add on that, he loves to stay outside of 3-pt line and become a spot-up 3 pt shooter.....we need a traditional center.....one who has height and strength and willing to do some dirty job inside, cleaning classes, like Siler
