Vikings beat reporter Judd Zulgad just received a phone call from Brad Childress who said he talked to Brett Favre and that he was informed that Favre is staying retired

Childress cited the daily grind both mentally and physically as part of the reason why Favre remained retired.

“I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division,” Childress said. “He knows our system inside out … This doesn’t change anything about how I feel about our football team.”

As a Viking fan i'm very disappointed

Doesn't mean the Favre rumors will end unfortunately. Hope I don't hear about any Vick rumors.

Oh darn. ;-) The NFL's career interception leader should get a paper route now so he can deliver paper's to the wrong houses.

Speaking of football....

I know it is just July, but are people interested in doing the fantasy football league again this year? I SO don't want to be in charge of it and whoever was last year did a great job. Just thought I would throw it out there as training camp is soon to start. Draft after the 3rd or 4th game again, but ya, figured I would throw that out there to think about.

I haven't played FFL with you guys yet, but I'd be up for it. Football is the sport with the little soccer men attached to a rod that you can spin and "kick" a little white ball into a goal right? Can we put money on it? I'm really good at that game.

LOL Yeah Sucks to be the bums that splurged on favre jerseys! haha

Who really thought the Rent-A-Packer approach would work in this scenario...Vick would be a much scarier threat on the vikes and I am a packer fan. I am glad I don't have to burn my favre jersey but I would have rather seen him on the team throwing picks and getting his old ass sacked than seeing vick throw picks and occasionally running away from a sack for a touchdown lol. Maybe they could offer rubio the position and the money could be used for the buy out? He is a good passer lol better than t-jack-me-off

Spinning them is frowned upon and would not sit well with those you may play against of a higher skill level. Just FYI. It would be considered a whammy...

How was he not good?

Threw over 2,000 yds 4 of his 6 seasons (despite only playing 8 games his rookie yr and 5 games in 03)

Threw 14-20 tds per season (despite only playing 8 games his rookie yr and 5 games in 03)

Rushed over 550 yds each season (despite only playing 8 games his rookie yr and 5 games in 03)

Never really had good WR targets either

Can he still do this? questionable maybe not, but y not take a risk? What do we have to lose? once he starts training he can get back in shape

Meh. He's about 90, I'm sure he would have broken a hip at some point anyway.

;-) I'm actually a pretty good foosball player. I always dominated in gym class in high school. Yes, we played table games in gym in high school.

Vick would be a horrible, horrible quarterback for the Vikings. The west coast offense, or sorry, the KAO that Childress runs depends on precision quick/short passes with good accuracy. That's the anti-Vick. So as a non-Vikings fan, I hope they target him.

Threw 14-20 tds per season (despite only playing 8 games his rookie yr and 5 games in 03)

Which puts him in the bottom half of NFL starting quarterbacks. His passer rating was 18th, 20th, 25th, and 20th in those four seasons. Passing yards and TDs not any better.

Alrighty, let the QB battle begin. Right now IMO its Sage's to lose.

Oh, and I'm game for fantasy football.

Where does Sage and T-Jack rate then?

My point is that if were willing to roll the dice on an older Brett Favre why not Vick?

I know he hasn't played in 2 yrs i know that, but now that Favre is out of the picture, take the chance on Vick get him in training camp see how he is, get him back in the weight room, let him prove to people that he can play, he's gotta start somewhere, we need a QB, y not?

He fits PERFECTLY in the wildcat offense Vick+AP+Percy :o Fastest players on the same field

Because he killed dogs. Pretty easy answer. And Sage and T-Jack suck. Vick might be better than them, but is it worth the risk?

This just means that the Vikes will be able to have a non media circus training camp. Then Favre will change his mind again after succesfully avoiding training camp and shorting the regular season from 16 to 12 or less games and take advantage of viking QB problems at about weeks 4-8 and become the Childress's last chance to save his job.
