MIL - MIN

Despite all the trade restrictions requiring seperate trades on many of these players, this deal could be done today, to help MIL sign Sessions:

1. Ridnour 6.5 + Alexander 2.58 for Q-Rich 8.7 + UTA protected 1st (top 15-17 for next 3 yrs)
2. Kurt Thomas 3.8 Elson 1.7 for Songalia 4.526
3. Amir Johnson 3.94 for Atkins 3.48 (0.76)

MIL gains $4.61 mil 2009 cap space for Sessions, a $2.4 mil TPE, roster spots, and the UTA pick. Elson can be kept if MIL would rather have him over cap space.

MIN gives us the $4.61 mil this year and the UTA pick, but turns Songalia's $4.8 mil next year into 2010 raw cap space, and gets a couple prospects in Alexander and Amir. Ridnour and Kurt Thomas would get some minutes as well, maybe even Elson.

Flynn, Ridnour, Brown
Brewer, Wilkins, Ellington
Gomes, Alexander
Love, Amir, Cardinal
Al Jefferson, Kurt Thomas, Elson, OPech

15-man roster .. for now.

An excellent poster from MIL posted the following trade, adding:

Luke Ridnour
Cash

for

Darius Songalia
Chucky Atkins

Only problem is that because the CBA doesn't allow you to combine a newly-acquired played in a trade for 60 days, each must be traded individually. That's the reasoning for the simlutaneous trades above.

I'd do RingtheBell's trade, so MIL could sign Sessions and have a handshake deal in place with MIN to slide them back under the lux. However, 60 days is a along time, and valuations change, so I think MIL's financially risk-averse owner wouldn't agree to wait.

does MIL want sessions that bad? i'm not sure they give up johnson and Thomas with just Warrick to hold down the fort either unless Ersan has grown up and filled out a bit.

only guy i'd be interested in is Thomas, he'd be a nice addition to the wolves as a solid vet bigman

They'd have Songalia too.

Ridnour is $6.5 mil, expiring. Everything in this deal is expiring except for Songalia.

By the way, MilMinMan is doing a great job keeping his salaries current despite all the summer movement. Here's a link:

The difference from the original deal of Kurt Thomas + Ridnour + cash for Songalia + Atkins is:

Alexander 2.58, Elson 1.7, Amir Johnson 3.94 for Q-Rich 8.7 + UTA protected 1st

MIL GETS:
1. Ability for lux-sensitive owner to do Sessions deal now, without risking going over the lux
2. UTA protected 1st (top 15-17 for next 3 yrs)
3. Whatever they can get out of Q-Rich, and his expiring
4. Two roster spots / save money and salary from future buy-outs
5. Keep the cash from the first deal.

I think that's fair compensation.

This seems to boil down to: Utah Pick for $4.8M of 2010 cap. I don't consider Joe Alexander and Amir Johnson "prospects" at this point. Personally, I think the Wolves have a better chance at adding a building block using the pick rather than the space.

I really like this trade,
1) It gets us more 2010 cap space which is a big plus (I'd trade Songalia, Atkins, and Utah's 1st for any expiring in the league)
2) It provides with a couple of players that could be valuable mentors or are worth something more than their expiring contract in Ridnour, Thomas, and to a lesser extent Elson
3) I still think Joe Alexander has some potential, he was a lottery pick last year only and it wouldn't hurt to give him some playing time and a chance to see what we have (he was also stuck behind a Moute and RJ last year, so he never really had a chance to find his place and I think a change of scenery would really help)
4) Amir Johnson is someone else that I wouldn't mind giving some minutes to as well, his play has dropped off as of late but a couple of years ago he showed some signs of greatness and I wouldn't mind giving him a look either.

I like the original post trade lineup of..

Flynn, Ridnour, Brown
Brewer, Wilkins, Ellington
Gomes, Alexander
Love, Amir, Cardinal
Al Jefferson, Kurt Thomas, Elson, OPech

IMostly because a elson & brown buyout frees up a few roster spots. KT can play the same role as songaila, but for only 1 year.

Nice creativity shrink.
I don't think milwaukee is willing to give up both johnson and alexander though.
Keep in mind they actually took on 2 mil in salary when they dealt oberto to detroit for johnson.
Although he would be an awesome shotblocking 3rd big to go with Al and Love, I don't think the bucks brass is interested in moving him.

By the time we'd combine players in a trade the bucks' time to match the offer sheet would be up.
But we could always have a deal in place, agreed to, that could be executed later, with the bucks matching the offer with this foreknowledge.

I could see something happening once Songaila becomes "combineable" (8/24) along the lines of:
songaila/bobby brown (5.252)
for Ridnour (6.5)

and

Atkins (3.48)
for Kurt Thomas.

After cutting atkins (760k guaranteed)
the bucks save 4.288 million in salary, enough to match sessions inevitable MLE offer sheet.
