I made an offhand remark on a Minnesota trade thread that a Young + McGee for Love trade would make a lot of sense for both teams. The response was surprisingly positive. Multiple Minnesota fans would do it.
If we really want to make a serious run at a championship, that's the trade to make. Love gives us another physical big man who we can keep on the roster without salary problems until Jamison expires. And we won't have to wait for him to develop; he's a legit NBA starter already. Also the loss of Young opens up more backcourt minutes for defensive minded players like Stevenson and DMac.
This team can compete with anybody in the East:
PG Arenas/Foye
SG Miller/Foye
SF Butler/DMac
PF Jamison/Love
C Haywood/Blatche
Add a grizzled vet big man like Oberto and we're set. And the team is built to last. The only old guy is Jamison, who will eventually get replaced by Love.

I'd rather keep Love, he's the best player in the trade.

I'm not too excited about Nick Young, so it basically comes down to Love versus McGee. So we downgrade from the 5th pick to the 18th pick? I think I pass. Love showed he could play last year, in legit minutes. McGee showed "eh" in stretches, with some pretty spots scattered in.

I like Love, but McGee looks like a starting caliber C in the future and Nick Young is an explosive young guard that i've always liked.
We have big Al and who knows if Love + Jefferson can be a good tandem.
I'm thinkin.

Not even close. Quality over quantity is the way. Keep Love.

Ick, the only good part about this deal is McGee is taller than love. Why would the wolves make this deal?

I'm not sure...................... I'm on the fence for this one, I like McGee and think he would fit well next to Jefferson, and Young is intriguing.......... but Love is the best player and Young doesn't have that high of a ceiling.........
I think we should ask for a little bit more such as a 2012 protected 1st or a Songalia for James swap as well to save us some cap space next year.

I was on the "Trade McCants for a mid-1st rounder so we can draft McGee or Hibbert" bandwagon pretty hard before the 08 draft, but this trade is not good for the Wolves.
McGee is obviously a very solid prospect, but not on the level of Love. And Nick Young reminds me of a poor man's JR Smith. There is definitely some upside there but I'm not going to gamble away Love on that upside. I'm not willing to sell Love at a bargain just to fill positions of need, thats not how you run a franchise.

What Wolves fans agreed to that? Quality > quantity right now, eff position.

Don't like it at all.
McGee+Young 17.4 PPG 5.7 RPG 1.5 APG
Love 11.1 PPG 9.10 RPG 1 APG
This comparison of course is ignoring the fact that these two guys combined played more minutes than Kevin Love. Of course I'm a Minnesota fan, but you just can't find too many players that are even similar to Kevin Love. As a rookie average about 25 minutes, Love was 9th in the NBA in rebounding (2nd in offensive rebounds) and arguably will be among the leagues top rebounders for several years. But the fact that he can produce numbers competitive with these two players who combined averaged more minutes per game is the reason I'm absolutely opposed to this trade.

The deal is definitely not bad and value isn't far off if it is off at all. McGee looks to be a very legitimate prospect at a position of some need who brings a different type of post game to the table. Young is a solid "young" wing that is also a current position of concern. But as others have stated, MN should be getting to the point of consolidating talent, not giving up the best player for two potential players.
Though I would definitely consider it and the value isn't bad, I would say no to the deal as is and keep Love.

lets not forget Love is like 20 and still a "prospect" himself. McGee is older than he is and Young is 24 and probably isn't as must of a project anymore especially with Ellington/Q/Brewer/Wilkins on the team now.
so love at 10/9
for McGee at 7/4
and all because of a couple inches? i'm still not sure why this deal is intriguing or even an thinkable.

I am 100% opposed to the trade proposal. Trading for two players who combined are comparable to Love is asinine.

someone said," Kaaaaaaahn! what would you dooooo-oooo-oooo for a Klondike bar?" and the dude was parched and hungry and ready for some arctic deliciousness... and when that happens, a dude has to oblige. and he'd be willing to do THIS for a Klondike bar, mystery solved. I'd probably be willing to do that for a Klondike bar too!
