Wolves leaning toward Rambis for coaching position
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis has emerged as the front-runner for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ coaching job, multiple league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.
Rambis leads a pool of finalists that includes ABC-TV analyst and former NBA point guard Mark Jackson and Houston Rockets assistant Elston Turner. Though a source close to Rambis says he has not yet been offered the job, multiple people with knowledge of the search say Minnesota is leaning toward choosing him. The Wolves are expected to make a decision soon.
Rambis had a 24-13 coaching record after replacing coach Del Harris with the Lakers during the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season before going 3-5 in the playoffs. Rambis also was a finalist for the Sacramento Kings’ job that went to Paul Westphal in June.
Interesting but i still don't trust Yahoo! Sports

Yea great article read this earlier, ya i would go with what was said on that article vs Yahoo
Honestly i don't see Rambis coming here tho, i think he stays in LA and waits for Phil to retire..IMO
but i also wouldn't be surprised if he did choose the Wolves vs. staying in LA

It's sure quite a process, I cant ever remember anything like it. Rambus might be like a Riles- Jackson mix, having played under Riley and his style. I dont see Rambis being a Zen-Master but he might be the best choice.

Rambis is very eloquent speaker and has a very high BB IQ. He knows how to analyze players and utilizes them well in the rotation while helping them realize strengths they never had (i.e. Ariza and his shooting etc.).

Maybe he could do that for Brewer.
As for him being the front-runner, I'm not certain. The article says that mostly because hes flying in to meet with Taylor. But isn't Taylor meeting with all three candidates?
As far as my personal preference, I'd say 1. Rambis, 2. Turner, 3 Jackson. I think right now in the Wolves mind Rambis and Jackson 1a and 1b (in no order) with Turner 3.

They're getting ahead of themselves. Our owner wants to talk with all three final candidates before making his final decision. Thats what this meeting is for.

I thought that Kahn said that he wanted to have his final candidate meet with Taylor before making a formal offer, not that he wanted Taylor to meet everyone.
As for Rambis, I'd feel pretty good about it. He actually has extensive coaching experience under a great head coach with a winning organization. Supposedly he's also a very good defensive teacher. I'd have him 1st, Turner a close 2nd, and Jackson a distant(like not actually in sight) 3rd.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Mark Jackson on the staff if Rambis is the coach. however i don't expect either of them to be around in a few years once the team is actually good. this seems like a stepping stone for Jackson and a waystop for Rambis before his glorious return to LA.

I know not to get my hopes up when it comes to MN sports but I'm cautiously hopeful this rumor is true.

Jackson as in Mark?
Jackson needs to temper his coaching expectations. Almost everyone works their way up from an asst. role. You can't just expect someone to hand you the head reins when you have no experience.

He has refused asst spots in the past.
If we get Rambis we will want a vet staff with him, but I would like a mentor pg to help flubio. A snow type.

so any chance that negotiations went something like this:
(phone rings)
rambis: yes?
kahn: oh hi, kurt, do you want to be the new headcoach of the minnesota timberwolves?
rambis: you know that I refused the same position in sacramento and I can have a lakers job in a year if I want? why the hell would I want to coach your team?
kahn: well, it's a good chance to get back at mchale.
(pause)
rambis: I'm listenin'.
