Pecherov and Team Ukraine

Post#1 » by TexFTW » Thu Aug 6, 2009 6:52 pm

Don't know if people here would care but he's a Wolves player so you might as well like to know.

Team Ukraine lost to Hungary, but Pecherov (starting C) was the best player on court, boxscore:

http://www.eurobasket2009.org/en/cid_to ... _299.html#{5E70D78D-E480-4F66-9B60-839D032EE21A}

29 min, 17 pts, 70% FG, 5 boards, 2 blks

Team Ukraine is pretty young so no surprise that they lost.

Cheers.

I don't give a f* about him. He doesn't have the balls to play in the US. He does not have my respect.

Product of a system. Decent, sometimes good, defender. Really not that great overall and old.

Pecherov is still 23, I hope the new coach remembers that.

Not that people here still care, but just to continue the topic:

Oleksiy Pecherov turned in his best performance in a Ukraine shirt and in the process carried the national team to victory over Hungary on Friday.

With just one victory in their previous three EuroBasket Relegation Round games, Ukraine got 28 points from Pecherov in a 77-69 victory to leave both sides with 2-2 records.

The contest was a marked contrast to their first meeting in Szombathely on August 5, when Ukraine trailed 40-37 at half-time but were then blown out 91-67.

The 23-year-old Pecherov, who was traded from the Washington Wizards to the Minnesota Timberwolves in June, also grabbed an eye-popping 17 rebounds in Friday's game.

Ukraine dominated the boards, out-rebounding Hungary 59-33.

Hungary led 45-32 with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter but didn't press home the advantage.

Instead Ukraine battled back and took a 57-56 lead two minutes into the last quarter on a jump shot by Sergio Gladyr.

They didn't go in front for good until midway through the period, though, when Dmytro Gliebov split two free-throws and Pecherov followed with a thunderous dunk.

David Vojvoda's three-point play trimmed the deficit for Hungary to 65-64 with 3:32 remaining, but Pecherov responded with a three-pointer and then hit two free-throws as Ukraine took command for good.

dang, 59-33 rebounding advantage, that's like 10 games worth of rebounds in 2k9.

Why do they keep playing Hungary

^ European basketball has a two division system in which some teams like Ukraine have to fight for the rights to stick to the elite of european basketball.

They have too many countries and not that many good teams so they have to split in two divisions. But the elite division is very strong. Tony Parker's France and Bargnani's Italy are facing each other for the rights to play in the last spots of the elite also.

Pecherov (stewie)
vs
Petrovic (bad guy on "Behind enemy lines)

learn your euro.

btw, anyone starting to wonder if Stewie might contribute? Not start, but maybe a bench p-n-r option?

I've always thought he will contribute this year. He's another good complement to Al, and when we want Love on the low block, put Stewie up top.

No one cares about the Germans.

(I kid, I kid, I've got a good chunk of German in me.)

it's actually somewhat okay to me as we can give our "talents" (or lack thereof) give more playing time to get a feeling for international ball (and completely embarass themselves)
