Ok According to Hoopshype the NOH current salary is 73.806 Million. According to ESPN the luxury threshold is 71.15 Million. Lastly, according to shrink if a team waives Atkins they save 2.72 Million. Therefore if use Atkins we can get NOH under the lux tax.

This trade couln't happen until Sept 24th, according to the trade checker, but it works then.

I like this trade. Julian Wright is an interesting prospect with his length and athletism. He is supposed to be able to play both SF and PF. We don't give up that much in Songalia except he can play some center.......If Al is truly coming back at the beginning of the season this would work well. If he isn't ready at the beginning of the season we are very thin at center.

Antonio would be a solid mentor for Jonny Flynn and his contract can be used for trading in February if needed or if Rubio would come over.

I think the 2nd round pick might be too much.

Also from what I know about Wright's game, he and Okafor compliment each other well compared to Wright and Chandler. So who knows if it would take more then financial flexibility to make it happen.

I'd do this trade in a heartbeat, even without the 2nd round pick.

definitely sign me up for this one, and I think there is a good chance that New Orleans does it as well.

I'd switch the second round pick, maybe one going to them instead of coming to us, but it's a very nice base for a trade.

Lux is 69.9M if I am not mistaken. That makes them just under 3.7M away from the lux line.

Helping New Orleans is going to be more difficult than I first realized. The Hornets also currently have 12 players and after this trade (and buying out Atkins) they would need to still sign 2 players to get to the league minimum of 13. What this means for us is that they would probably have to take on a contract smaller than Songalia's (perhaps Wilkins) and this still might not be enough without some other maneuvering. Looking at the Hornets finances here's the number's I have.

That gets NO about 4.2M in cap savings bringing them around 500K below the
lux but still not enough savings if they have to bring in two more players for the
league minimum. I guess they could then try to trade Devin Brown's 1.1M salary
for a TPE and sign someone else to the league minimum and make it work that way.

Saves New Orleans 4,938,750 in cap space (73,717,055 from shamsports.com - 4,938,750 = 68,778,305 salary); the luxury tax is 69.9 million, so this gives them room to sign a minimum salary player ("a waived Blount?" or some other big)

Why Minnesota? We get to see if Wright or Armstrong are any good.

Why New Orleans? They save 4,938,750 in salary x 2 (luxury tax) = 9,877,500 + 3,000,000 est. luxury tax share = 12,877,500 in savings. Over 10 million in savings for a team like NOH is huge, plus the 4 players they give up all were backups (Armstrong played the most with 15.6 mpg)

Not enough incentive for New Orleans to do it.

They save 4,526,000 + 760,000 = 5,286,000;
6,600,000 - 5,286,000 = 1,314,000 x 2 = 2,628,000 in savings this year

But they add Songalia next year for 4,818,000; so in the long run they would pay more (also this is very likely to be doubled because of the luxury tax as well). So they may end up losing 7 million in the trade.

without Wright involved, I don't think NOH gets under the lux.

because it doesn't save them money in the long run, they save 2.5 million or so this year and are still in the luxury tax; but next year they would have to pay songalia close to 5 million and it would likely be doubled because of the luxury tax.

New Orleans does the deal only to save money, and in the long run they lose a lot of money in your scenario, with very little savings for them this year.

Great deal for both teams! Wolves get rid of Songalia. Hornets save around $8M this season.

Keep in mind that even if we get NOH under the lux this year, they still have to worry about next season. Right now they have nearly $62 mil in guaranteed salary in six contracts, and its possible that hoping to get rid of Songalia's 2-year deal just won't work for the Hornets. Now they may, to get free this year and worry about next year when it comes. However, I would think that the Hornets are more likely to accept a deal where they pay for Atkins in current value (pick, prospects), and don't add 2010 salary, or perhaps work out a three team deal where they move Songalia to a better team.
