I think this article gives a fair evaluation of the Wolves situation

This was discussed some in an earlier thread:

Jefferson says he has been "doing everything I was supposed to do, and not doing everything I wasn't supposed to do." To play center, he had bulked up to 285 or bigger last season. This summer, after seeing the team draft speedster point guards Rubio and Flynn, and knowing he'd be running more than ever, he resolved to get back to his rookie weight of 265 (he's at 270 right now).

thanks for the article. it was a nice read - especially considering it was written by an ESPN writer.

one thing that bugs me is that he said our pick we owe to the Clippers will be gone by 2011. I thought it was unprotected in 2012?!

Good article that leaves me with impressions.

I agree that Jefferson, Love, Brewer, Flynn, and Rubio are the blocks ...and also like Rambis' theory of Flynn off the bench. Right or wrong, he has a perspective of what he's looking for interms of roles that expose each players strength and winning.

Reading the article, it' appears critical that Rubio gets here for this NBA season ... my gut is starting to believe he is getting closer and Rambis threw him a bone (and stayed on par with Kahn) saying he pictures Rubio as the starting PG when the season starts. Everyone can say what they want, but I agree with Al that we should expect to be knocking on the door inside of 3 years. I also think expectations from the players and coaches are the Rube will be a part of this teams development.

I still we could be contending for a playoff spot in 2010-11 if things go right next offseason. There's alot of variables though.

Yeah, here is what can get us into the playoffs:

IF

*we can sign someone with the wolves' supposed "10-12mil"
*Al Jefferson learns to pass consistently out of the double
*Love can play high-post with Al effectively
*Rubio comes over and is a stud
*Our up-tempo style works
*Brewer becomes a great all-around defender
*Flynn accepts his role as the 6th man

I see we're already begun to pigeonhole our young rookie.

What if he role alone is not pigeon holed? a back-up pg could be anything from bobby jackson-sactown to kevin Ollie.

Fact: 5 players start
Fact: those 5 will not play the whole game

If Flynn does not start, but still plays 30ish min a game----who cares?

great. Someone might think you are comparing Flynn to Manu.

But yes. Exactly in that usage.

If we have to wait for Jefferson to pass out of the double team before we make the playoffs, we might as well give up. It's more like this, if Jefferson returns to his pre-injury self, Love continues to develop, Flynn proves himself to be a solid NBA point guard, draft an immediate impact player, sign or trade for a good veteran player. That's alot of different stuff that needs to happen but there's nothing there that's outlandish.

What's so "outlandish" about Al Jefferson passing out of the double? He wasn't that bad at it, IIRC, he was doing just fine before he got injured.

No thread is complete without a witty response by everyone's favorite d-bag, I mean blazer fan, I mean a stuck in the middle between Wolves/Blazer fan, Casey.
