Q Rich for Blount

First, Etan Thomas.

Now, Quentin Richardson.

Soon, Mark Blount.

For the second time this summer, David Kahn dealt away a player before he ever really arrived in Minnesota. This time, the Wolves dealt Richardson — acquired from the L.A. Clippers last month in that 3-for-1 deal that sent Craig Smith, Sebastian Telfair and Mark Madsen westward — late Thursday night to Miami and brought back veteran center Mark Blount (of all people).

This deal, too, is all about cost saving and salary-cap stuff.

Both players have expiring salaries, but the Wolves will save nearly $1.4 million by waiving Blount and his $7.96 million contract rather than dump Richardson’s $9.35 million contract.

By making this deal, it’s clear Kahn never intended having Richardson, who likely would have been a runaway gunner in his contract year, on this season’s team.

Kahn still could deal Blount’s contract in another deal, but it seems like waiving him outright is more likely.

Either way, he’ll be back with the Wolves on paper only — and probably fairly briefly — nearly two years after the Wolves’ old regime miraculously traded Ricky Davis and Blount to the Heat for Antoine Walker and that 2009 first-round pick that Kahn in essence dealt to Denver for a future first-round pick.

hypothetically, this could also help in getting rid of Songaila as it creates a TPE for shrink to play with...do we have any other TPE's that we could deal as well?

Wrong. Can't combine players and TPEs.

I guess I was hoping for more, but this is fine too. The only thing Q wouldve done was take PT from the young pups and maybe help us win a couple more games. Not a big deal, so I'll choose the savings.

This makes the Maddog trade look bad. We gave up our best cheerleader for nothing.

We save $1.4 million so it's not a complete waste. Obviously that $1.4 million only benefits Glen Taylor's checkbook, but it's not like Richardson was going to contribute anything for us.

I know. Kinda anticlimactic. Well, there's still Chuck's contract to play with in trades.

I didn't mind him the first time around. He fit well with KG. Not sure he has a place on this team. I hope he is just waved or immediately swung for something else.

Not bad, it's a shame there were no picks involved. Is Kahn done dealing? Or is this another precursor to another trade?

Let's pray that Kahn can move Songaila's contract.

Remember that hypothetical 3-way with Denver's TPE and a gay-like player? I was told that Qrich was not compatible for the Denver TPE but Blount is. Not saying to expect anything, but it would make the trade make sense.

craig smith, sebastian telfair(who IMO couldve easily been traded to ORL with a second and cash), and mark madsen for Mark Blount and a little savings... i dunno.
