OPec and Songalia's Trade Restrictions Expire

Post#1 » by shrink » Sun Aug 23, 2009 12:00 am

Its been 60-days since the Foye trade, so now OPec and Songalia can be combined with other players in trade.

So what's in your daily planner?

Let's be optimistic for the Wolves. According to the Wizards, Kahn rejected the same deal with DeShawn Stevenson (who has injury risks) and replaced him with Songalia. This had some people scratching their heads. Songalia may or may not be a better player, but he carried more 2010 salary, and we could certainly didn't need another PF, especially considering the SG minutes available with Mike Miller and Randy Foye going out. Maybe Kahn has a deal waiting?

I dont care about SonGaila, but I would like to see Pech stay and earn a spot during training camp. He has looked good in international ball over the summer and I think this could be his year to step up in the NBA.

Bigs take awhile to develop, as do Euros, it his 3rd season this year.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Songaila is a big and a Euro

but...........ya

I'd be happy with any deals that involve Songaila and not adding any 2010 salary, I hope we can trade Songaila, O Pech, Atkins and some draft picks for a SG starter and a decent backup big

LOL! Another rockin' anal-retentive Saturday night on the message boards casey?

Ok, let's use the word "board." Or "fans." Or "posters."

You can choose, and I'll go back and edit my post for you. I want to correct any confusion that the Wizards team came over and told me.

Another overly-defensive Saturday night for yourself, eh? Geez. I can't ever respond to a post of yours without you getting all bitchy. There's a big difference between someone from the organization saying something and some fans saying something.

Poor you. Ever the victim.

So what edit do you want made, since this seems crucial enough for you to post?

i'd like to see Stewie stay too, Songalia i really don't care about. If we could swing a deal Song/Atkins for a SG, great!

The big name on the board so far has been CJ Watson for OPec:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=939331

While I like CJ Watson, there are better fits for him. Supposedly GSW has made several offers for Watson and refused them, including one from ORL for Anthony Johnson, ORL 1st and cash.

I'd like to see what O Pec can do too, but I wouldn't turn down the Magic offer for OPec.

I could care less about Opec. I think he could be a decent role back-up this year. But what I really want is to get away from Song.

One thing to remember is that 2010 draft picks will take up cap room. In our situation (already having multiple 1st round picks), I think cap room is worth more than late round picks. 2011 picks would be better for us, although they might be harder to acquire.

Good call.

That being said, would you move Utah's pick if it meant we got out of Song's contract?

Does Rubio have a cap-hold on us as a 1st rd draft pick? So he affects our cap either in europe or here?

I don't know, I'd try to avoid it. If we have to then maybe a trade for another 1st round pick becomes viable.

Apparently it counts against the cap during the offseason, but not during the season if he's in Europe.

I believe that is the case with all cap holds.

How much value will the utah pick have? Considering we (likely) have our own and Char's pick

I guess I like 3 picks. It's pretty much the most you can have and still keep all the players. If a trade came up with someone trying to dump salary, I think it's a nice option to have 2 picks to trade while still being able to keep our own. I'd also say that it's only 50/50 we get the Charlotte pick this year, so it's nice to have at least 2 guaranteed picks this draft.
Of course trading the pick would clear even more cap room.
