Any Late Moves?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Tue Sep 1, 2009 1:05 am

With the Rubio saga finally over (we think), the front office can move on and make our final roster moves. By my count, we have four players under contract and on our roster. Do you foresee any more moves before training camp?

Flynn / Atkins (EXP) / Brown (EXP)
Brewer (TO) / Ellington
Gomes (UnG) / Wilkins (EXP) / Cardinal (EXP)
Love (TO) / Songaila (PO) / Pecherov (TO)
Jefferson / Hollins / Blount (EXP)

Im hoping Kahn comes back from spain and decides to obliterate another team in a trade to take out his frustrations.

Are we buying Blount out for sure? Other than that i think Carney is our last move.

We only have 4 players klomp?

If we were going to simply buy-out Blount it would have already happened.

I doubt we do a move to balance the roster. We are clearly scrapping this year in order for the future.

I took it to mean we have 4 guaranteed contracts in 2010 assuming no player options/team options are picked up...which is also true (Flynn, Ellington, Jefferson, Hollins).

Gomes isnt a team option, he just isnt fully guaranteed. We could waive him by 6/30, and only owe him 2.75 mil total over the remainder of his deal. After 6/30, its fully guaranteed.

Didn't Kahn say Atkin was 99% likely to be gone?

I bet they wait until he can be combined with another player. We are likely not done dealing yet.

[Kahn] said he will return to Minnesota Wednesday and immediately turn his attention to the team’s roster, which now needs at least one more point guard. He called Flynn the team’s projected starter entering camp and said he wasn’t sure if Bobby Brown would be on the roster.

“We do need to address that situation and find a quality backup to Jonny,” he said. “There could be a lot of changes at that position still to come between now and training camp.”

It seems that Kahn has some trades on the table that had to wait until he resolved the Rubio situation. How that he is not coming this year, Kahn can pull the trigger on a couple more deals prior to training camp at the beginning of October.

Good post Dan. I think that is a valid point that there could have been things on the table but the Rubio situation was clearly the priority.

Otherwise why would Blount/Adkins still be here and not bought out?

How much playing time is Brewer expected to play? around 20 mpg or 30 mpg?

Brewer has proven pretty much nothing and the new front office and coaching staff both have zero ties to him so its all going to be based on his camp and preseason PT going forward. Between Wilkins, Brewer, and Ellington, any of them could be anywhere from starter to DNP, its totally wide open right now.

My assumption would be 20-30 minutes. Either as a starter or primary sub. He is better suited for the fast pace team style. He is our best wing defender, a good rebounder and his spot-up jumper is improving. I see him having a very good year.

But I am very bias.

kind of interested to see where they're going w the PG position, not much left in free agency, maybe Brevin Knight, they probably need to make a trade though I think
