wow! crazy deal, i didn't think we could get even that much for brown or Song. I think Daniels will be useful with our young backcourt.

This will quietly go down as an amazing rip-off. Dump Songalia's 2010 salary, and pick up a big veteran 3rd PG behind Flynn and Session? Daniels can even play with both of them as the 2 guard. I love it. Daniels is expiring as well.
All doubts I had just went out the window. I figured we'd have to throw in Atkins, but now we still have him to use in a trade or to cut to save 2009 money. Kahn is a genius.

I almost feel bad about this. We kind of ripped them off. We should maybe apologize. Dealt two players we didn't want for a player we've wanted for a couple years now, shed 2010 salary, and got a 2nd round pick out of it? Lovin it.

I wonder what NO-KG-AI thinks of this deal.

Makes the Rubio trade better. One of the knocks on the Rubio trade was taking on a bad contract. Now we didn't take ANY bad contracts on and actually got a solid veteran guard in Antonio Daniels.
Daniels played in the backcourt with Chris Paul at times. Flynn's been mentioned as a poor man's Chris Paul. Maybe he helps him get there?

What a move. I'm surprised we got an expiring for Songalia without giving anything up.

Another thing this did is opened a roster spot. If we were able to sign Sessions, this puts us at 14 guaranteed contracts now.

Songalia is a solid backup PF, so I get this trade. It makes sense form a basketball standpoint, they want to make a run and Daniels is not important to that (assuming they feel comfortable with Collison at backup PG). And it makes sense from a money standpoint: 6.6 mil - 5.26 (times 2 for the luxury tax) = 2.68 million dollars saved this year for New Orleans (and a few more tickets sold) for taking on that salary next year.
The Hornets have done a pretty good job this year of keeping talent and shedding luxury taxes this year.

VERY nice. 4.5 million more 2010 cap space, and gives us a veteran mentor PG that some desire on an expiring for Flynn/Sessions, plus an extra roster spot. The "future 2nd rounder" is just icing on the cake.

WOW. Kahn is a master thief if this is true.
4.818 mil of 2010 cap space and a roster spot to boot.
AND A future 2nd rounder?
And ANOTHER big expiring deal to play with?
This is beyond anything I had conceived he would be able to do with songaila.
Setting aside the financial aspects, Songaila should be
a very good role player and backup PF for them, a position they are thin at.
And David West is fairly injury prone.
Daniels was not going to be in their plans anyway.
I thought there was no way the hornets would add 2010 salary,
but after some digging around I heard that they have a minority owner with VERY deep pockets who is willing to spend, and this backs that up.
bucks board says their is talk of mavs sending buckner's mostly unguaranteed deal to the bucks for kurt thomas. That would clear room for sessions. Hopefully it doesn't go down though.
Acquiring Daniels would give us a vet backup PG as insurance if sessions is matched.
This also raises a question about what to do with atkins.
Kahn gave up pretty good assets to acquire him (et's big expiring + 2 2nds).
The obvious example was using him to move songalia's deal.
Now what? Did we send our 2010 2nd just to line glen's pockets and acquire a very mediocre SG in wilkins?

Maybe Atkins gets used to move Blount now instead???

Makes a ton of sense now why Kahn insisted on Songalia and not debrickashaw stevenson in the rubio deal, even though he makes more money.

this makes me wonder if Sessions will be matched now.
The front court went from heavy to thin in a hurry.

Another side thought I have on this deal is New York versus Minnesota, or Kahn's ability as a GM and Walsh's, rather...
Kahn dumped his bad 2010 salary in Songalia, but Walsh is stuck hanging on to Jeffires. Who's better out of Jeffries and Songalia? I'd be interested in the opinion of a Wizard fan. Jeffries makes a little more, but if he's the better player, should he have been moveable to New Orleans for the same package? Isn't that what the Knicks plan was?
Kahn got it done, Walsh couldn't.
The student has become the master.
