He talked about making it this week during the Sessions Press conference. What could the other significant move be? Moving Atkins? For what of significance.

It depends on your definition of significant, but it will bring back a draft pick or somebody who will play.

This is on the wiretap (small enough to post here):

The Timberwolves are close to signing an unknown free agent.

David Brauer of the Minneapolis Post wrote on his Twitter page that general manager David Kahn discussed the move in this afternoon's press conference, which introduced point guard Ramon Sessions.

"David Kahn says he's working toward another roster move. Does not involve expiring contract," Brauer wrote.

He then followed up, writing: "Update: Kahn says it's a signing."

Interesting that another Minneapolis writer not named Zgoda is getting this info.

So who is the mystery free agent? Or maybe a trade not involving an expiring contract?

Brian Cardinal, Chucky Atkins, Ryan Gomes and UTAH's 1st for LeBron James. Book it.

Cleveland's already deciding this season will be a failure and can't afford to lose LeBron for nothing. So they save $9mil after the lux this year and gain a 1st round pick.

The signing could be our $1.99 mil BAE (some of you call it the LLE), or simply filling the pre-season roster. Atkins is not only a partially guaranteed contract, but an expiring contract as well.

Atkins should be able to bring in a significant asset. As I've said many times, his contract saves a team $3 mil in 2009, which is hard to find. If the team is over the lux, it saves $6 mil, and if it helps get a team under the lux threshold, that's an addition $3 mil or so. Since late 1sts get sold for $3 mil, I assume to a team over the lux, it should bring a pick around 20.

Wolves don't have the money to sign anyone. They're right at the salary cap, actually I think over due to Rubio's cap hit, and their MLE money is gone. It would have to be the BAE, but that's not enough for anyone to care about. It's a Kevin Ollie type move.

Maybe it is Nate Robinson for a hair over his QO from the Knicks to screw Donnie. :-)

I'd hate that move completely, but it would be funny to see the Knicks reaction to lose a guy for so cheap.
